i don't blame you for feeling like that. i have also noticed that if someone posts on this forum that they've bought the top end kit, they get attacked.

a while back i bought components that made my pc pretty much the most high spec you could get (of course technologies onward march killed that fact off pretty quick) and i posted the spec on here along with a question. by christ some of the replies were a bit hostile!!!!

good luck with your pc, and if you can afford to keep on upgrading then keep on doing it. i like my toys and it seems you do too. :D

These are forums heavily represented by overclockers, and as such it is entirely reasonable to question somebodies logic in spending more than they needed to, when they could get the same performance for half the cost.

aye right!!!!!

surely if the overclockers had the money then they'd buy top end too and overclock it.

<<expecting replies telling me how you get better performance from certain cpu's that are much cheaper>> :p

I've had an QX6700, X6800, E6600, FX55 and FX57. I've also had a x4800 when they came out and a 3.6ghz P4, and a P3 1200 when they came out aswell !

:D :D you and me must be related  although i've not had all these cpu's i've had most.

I think we're taking ourselves and one another far too seriously here. I suspect that those who get bugged by those who buy top end processors are just plain envious. Let's face it, assembling a PC and overclocking it requires little more brain power than assembling Lego bricks. So what's the big deal?

8800 Ultra / WD Raptors / Any flagship CPU

The above items in near every post that mentions them all get targeted by people who may be jealous or for other reasons feel the need to slate these items, fact is they do sell and this shop does sell them.

this thread was not just that OP had chosen expensive high end parts, it was more about the timing of spending so much , with new tech just around the corner.

edit: i agree that its up to him as to what to do with his money, but this is a discussion forum, so it was being discussed.

It's still just a thread for discussion on an overclockers site, you can't post a new thread & expect everyone to agree with you - that's not what forums are about!

When you start any thread, you should be prepared for others to challenge your point of view. I don't think anyone was being particularly nasty or personal - do you?

It's sad that the forums seem to have lost a new member over this, but you've got to have thicker skin & take the good with the bad.

The truth.

Exactly!

FWIW, the argument applies to all processors, not just the high-end parts. Why buy an E6400 in Jan/Feb when the E6420 was imminent? Why buy a Q6600 a month ago when a new stepping with a lower price was imminent?

Yes there's always something better around the corner but the closer you are to that corner, the less sense it makes to buy at that time. I'm currently in the market for an upgrade to something like a Q6600 or E6850 but I'm not jumping now, despite the price cuts, as Penryn is imminent and I'll feel like a muppet if I buy now and something much better/cheaper is released in a couple of months.
