FAO Mods: Forum Request

On other forums I am a member of, if you mouseover the thread title a small popup appears containing the first few lines of the post. It's a very handy feature because you can see what the thread is about without actually opening it.

Would there be any possibility of that being activated here?

Just realised, you need to be logged in for it to work

I'm in Firefox 2.0 and hovering over thread titles on that forum does nothing.

The title does that for me. If the thread reads: "aftershave help" I have a feeling it's going to be a thread about aftershaves.

You know yourself that thread titles are not always accurate!

True, but they're often renamed by mods or you simply click back and not bother going into it again. Having it pop up for every thread would do my head in. As the vast majority don't require a description.

I skim read, so when that feature flickers up a line of text as I move the mouse around (usually absent mindedly) I tend to snap my attention to it for a second and I'll catch a couple of words that mean nothing at all and it annoys the hell out of me.

Firefox has an add-on that allows you to mouse over links for a preview.

Cooliris Preview

I personally found it annoying after a few days.

Or we could put accurate titles so we know what a thread is about rather then going "spec me a ........."

Yep

I think it's been said before that they will not introduce what the OP is asking for. So if they could have a zero tolerance approach to annoying vague thread titles it would be something at least.

I disagree. I'd like to see it implemented and would be grateful for a Mod reply to tell me if it'd be considered.

Is it a standard feature of vB? If not you are right, it has been stated that the forum software will not be 'hacked' to allow any modifications like that.

I find that feature quite handy when I see vague thread titles in other places but making people use correct descriptions in their thread titles would do exactly the same job.
