Far Cry 2

the reason they tend to not have destructable people is that censors would have a field day. they already banned or want to ban ragdoll physics in shooters in germany. if they had people that exploded when you hit them with a rocket to the chest im sure there would be many people who claim its 'too violent'

team fortress 2 should be excellent though, as people explode, and it looks very satisfactory as well

edit: im sure the reason why a game like farcry 2 or crysis doesnt have destructable people is because the gfx are pretty realistic, where as tf2 is a cartoony, more melow style of game, as opposed to a nitty gritty realistic game like fc2

The developers went to Africa just to get a feel for the climate and environments. Ubisoft is putting a LOT of heart into this one.

Just out of curiosity, why are games focusing on destructible trees at the minute yet nobody has destructible enemies? I'd be much more impressed if i could shoot someones arm off rather than shoot a guy and watch him get a bullet whole texture appear then shoot some trees to hell and watch the fall and drop everywhere.... it can't be too violent, you have to pull bullets out your leg with pliers for christs sake! :p

Totally agree with this. I still hark back to the days of Soldier of Fortune with the fantastic flying limbs and blood 'n' guts...wish they would replicate this with today's graphics, would be amazing. It's so much more satisfying shooting an enemy and seeing him react in a way that suggests he's received a bullet in the head rather than just smelt a nasty fart.

Game censors need to get real and equal as films have far more graphic violence than any game seems to be able to get away with. There must be a way round it, such as selling it online from a server in a country with no laws on game violence.

I agree, but they don't, and until this happens its pointless developers concentrating on this if it'll see their game being refused classification.

The problem is the graphics improved, back in 8 bit days we could decapitate the opponent with great spurts of blood.

I imagine if graphics get photo realistic we will be reduced to slapping someone with a glove to symbolise their death

Far Cry 2 utilises the Dunia engine, while they have said that 90% of it is "new" they havent stated where the other 10% comes from.
Having seen the video, I would say it certainly looks like an enhanced CE1 engine.

Must admit I haven't heard that, I'm just going from the dev blog video where he says it's a brand new engine that they've spent the last two years developing. Some nice talk about multi core CPUs as well, so i think the quad owners will be happy. Also been developed with DX9 and DX10 in mind as well, so will hopefully be one of the new wave of DX10 games that makes it worth while.

Have to agree that destructable environments is the way to go, imagine a war game where artillary shells leave a hole to hide in, walls chip away when shooting them to the point that if you unloaded several clips at a flimsy wall it would be no more.

As someone said above, in a game where I have various weapons I don't want to run around to find a key, if I'm not being covert then i'd just shoot/blowup the lock/door.
