Far Cry 2

"We had the chance to play Far Cry 2 on a PC and on the Xbox 360. The PC version of the game had much more impressive visuals, running smoothly at an incredibly high resolution, somewhere in the 1600x1200 range. While the art assets appeared to be generally the same in both versions, the 720p-resolution console version just doesn't measure up. Still, when compared to other console shooters, Far Cry 2 more than holds its own thanks to a very powerful game engine and some interesting graphical tricks that frequently come into play."

Sounds to be coded pretty well on PC, unlike Crysis! :D

Still though, if you want to see it at the best it can be on the PC you will need a monster PC to do so. Those that have one will be happy and will get in PC no doubt, for others the sensible choice would be the 360.

I'm not sure that a monster PC is required for games these days.
I only have an 8800GT in mine, which can be had new for about £90 these days... my E6600 which I bought on launch day is hardly state of the art 2 years on, but it still plays all the games I throw at it, and is also cheap to pick one up these days.

I played through Crysis a couple of times on my rig and found it perfectly playable (especially after patching) with details on high (not extra high)

Far Cry they've said will be a lot less demanding than Crysis, but even then, you really don't have to set everything to "the best it can be" for a PC title to still look spectacular. The extra resolution goes a long way.

No real point to this post, I just don't think you need to spend the fortune you once had to on PC gaming. My rig is two years old this month, with the exception of the 8800GT which i bought last year, and that was never a state of the art card, just a good value for money one. After all this time, I'm still not in any need of an upgrade to play games, I could, but I just don't need to. Sure, it still costs more than a 360 for example, but not as much more as some people may think.

Anyway, back OT, looking forward to trying Far Cry 2 ;)
I hope there's a demo on the PS3 and PC at some point, so I can compare for myself, but seeing as the PC version will undoubtedly be the superior version, and most likely be a fair bit cheaper to buy as well, it's a no brainer for me which version to get.

Vin.

Needing a monster PC is a thing of the past, people with £85 8800GT's are maxing out new games at the moment.

You can build a great PC for around £350 with an 8800GT which will produce better visuals than current consoles. :)

Also remember, to get optimal visuals from the current gen of consoles you need a HDTV, but nobody likes to admit that when comparing the price between computers and consoles. :o

Check the DMC4 benchmark thread, people maxing out DMC4 at huge resolutions with max framerates and better visuals, all on a £85 8800GT.

Obviously its going to be better don't forger the 360 has hardware that was made 3+ years ago.

Over reaction there. They are fine on consoles but better with K/M.

Indeed, once your used to a pad they're fine. Unfortunately people expect to go from a mouse and keyboard to a pad and expect it to be easy. It isn't, like most things practice makes perfect.

Looks pretty good. I think having the magazine get stuck would be very very irritating. It happened twice in the space of about four minutes...

I'll probably pick this up on the 360. I'd love it on the PC, but I don't think my computer is up to it. :p
