Far Cry 3 Thread

I'm getting a few freezes/crashes in FC3. I've also just had a BSOD and a forced restart. The only change I've made to my PC is changing the graphics card from an HD6770 to an HD7850. Do I need to re-calibrate the game to allow it to properly recognise the new graphics card?

The game was rock solid before I changed the graphics card.
 
delete all the drivers and reupload only using your cards drivers, then check for updated drivers online, you'll also need to defragment the hard drive

Uninstall your GPU drivers, then use driver fusion to remove any files that the uninstall missed and get the new drivers and CAP's from AMD's website for your card.

You don't need to defrag, defragging for just one game is unnecessary, and like i've said, you don't need to defrag.

From what I've heard, FC3 doesn't like overclocks on gpu's, or, I think, too little volts. Whether that applies to you, of course I don't know. Be careful though, especially with the latter, I may have got my wired crossed. :)

Looks like I'm gonna have to get this game. The new dlc sounds good too. I think cjs-cdkeys has it for around £15 so can't complain with that.
 
go for max OC on AMD Catalyst, but dont use Trixx or MSI Afterburner.

AMD Catalyst is far more stable, but to be honest on a 7950 you shouldn't need to OC anyway

Oh I never knew that! Thanks! Did I also read somewhere that amd were adding BD to their free game list? I've still got a code for bioshock and Crysis 3.

Yes, its not an add on for Far Cry 3, its a seperate game, a funky looking one at that..

Hey how is the M17x you got, think it was you that got an M17x that took ages to reach you, think we purchased ours at around the same time.
 
Ah yeah, haha. Well. I was needing to build a pc as a HTPC cause I had a few hard drives with movies and tv shows on. Then my brother was wanting an m17x , but was gonna get one in a month or so. I also noticed I was gaming at my desk 95% of the time. So I asked if he wanted it now and I could have built a beast of a pc. To which he said yes. So I've now gone for a x79 i7 3820, 16gb ram and a 3gb 7970 ghz Edtion. Put it into a cooler master cosmos 2 which is an absolute beast. Can't even fit under my desk haha. Also gone for my first custom watercooled loop. I've never bricked myself so much haha. Just glad it's not leaking. Even tried cable braiding, never doing that again. What a pain!

Oh also my dvd drive wasn't working in the m17x. Phoned for someone to come and look at it, he replaced the drive, but it turned out it was the connector. So he came back the next day and replaced the mobo, but forgot the odd cable haha. So had to come back a 3rd day to put a cable in. Can't really complain though, and free of charge. That warranty is pretty good.

How's your m17x?
 
My m17x is good, it gets a lot of use as I hardly get chance to hook up to a desk, I use it mostly in the living room, also use the HDMI in to hook up PS3 or a Sky box as missus is dreadful with the telly and doesn’t share much…

It’s been a good solid laptop, good performer wish I could go get a high powered desktop though. But, M17x has paid for itself as its meant I can game, did recently get myself a wheel for project cars, which does need a desk, so starting to hang my nose over a desktop PC’s again..
 
Ah project cars looks great! Has the alpha closed now? I was trying to buy it the other night. I was the same though, I used mine with the xbox and ps3, hdmi input was a great idea. Their was a moment where I kinda wished I could have sat in bed with laptop, but I forgot I had one of those wee nexus 7 's. Which actually gets used loads now.

Think I'll buy FC3 tonight haha.

Nah, no overclocking or undervolting. I don't go in for that kind of thing. :)
