Far Cry 3 Thread

Game is OK, its no 10/10 though.

It gets boring fast, the AI is terrible, and it just feels old to me with nothing new.

Even the graphics are nothing special, plus it has a few performance problems.

Overall 7/10

yup you said it not me, similar to the 2nd game !!!!!!

yea i know, just keep an eye on this thread for the next week before making your mind up..... dont buy yet

because it's impossible to tell right now, because games only become boring after a few days.....i.e Far cry 2 was ok for the 1st week as well

Too late;)

Ill tell you what really irks me, is you shoot one bandit, then about 6 bus loads turn up?:/
And some wild animal who has probably been stalking you, decides this is a good time to pounce on you as well.

This game should be called,, FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!!3

Has anybody been able to bind weapon change to mouse wheell up and down.
I cant for the life of me work it out?

When the round graphic comes up to show weapon, i can only see one weapon, and i know i have a few that i own, but cant equip, i only see the bow.

I think early in the game, you can only equip one firearm, as all the other slots seem to be locked?

What's the open world side of things like? Is it just copy and paste with encampments etc all over the map, with the same enemies here and there?

yes well, that's typical FAR CRY i'm afraid, what bothers me is :-

1....too many complaints are similar to the 2nd game.

2.....i dont read any REALLY great posts like i did when Dishonored 1st came out.

but the game might be ok with patches

Well i just did the quest to get the mushrooms, and i am about to go do the next quest and noticed i had one on the right side unlocked on the weapon screen thingie :D , but i only see the bow i bought?

Outside of quests it is pretty good. There are outposts to clear out, and once you do, they are friendly, and open up new side missions and stuff. Each encampment I have cleared so far has been a different challenge. There are also challenges, but I haven't done any yet as they don't really appeal to me, courier quests and assassinations to do(go somewhere, kill a certain person, who usually has a few mates with him...they are not bad actually). You also need to do a fair bit of hunting

It is a very good game, there are just too many niggles to be called great....it is certainly much better than FC2

I cant loot the chest cost my wallet is full ? really ?
i cant loot the chest cause my backpack is full ? really ?
I cant loot the pig i killed using 2 full mags as there obviously super pigs cause my bag is full !!

I cant sell stuff to the vendor cause my wallet is full. i cant buy stuff cause my bag is full !! seriously !

Sandbox it might be but only real one way to do missions. Go the wrong way and fail .

Could have been so good but falls down in to many places.. looks and plays ok though :/

In theory that's the way it should be. The first guys attacked call for help, help arrives. But I don't think that's what's happening.

I don't think this is spoiling things in any way, but I went exploring and ended up pushing my jetski across a sand bar between stretches of water. I had to get rid of one jeep load of guys, had time for another push, then another jeep turned up. One more push, another jeep, another push, another jeep. Another push, another jeep, but I was into the water and able to get away. I think I could have stayed there all day collecting jeeps on the beach.

Then I landed on a tiny island and got murdered by dogs and cassowaries when I ran out of ammo and couldn't use my knife even though I seem perfectly able to use it for skinning the fifty six animals I need to edit my man-bag so I can carry some more flowers. :->

Pretty much.

The more and more I play this game, the more I get annoyed at how many irritating things are, which really ruin what could have been my GOTY, as mentioned before:

- awful menu system/UI, it makes me want to not even open up the menu in order to craft things, read info. on stuff, upgrade weapons, upgrade skills
- obvious console port with regards to the press space to jump onto this ledge, yet you can't jump on top of other stuff, which is the same height , the way you don't even need to be near the object/person in order to perform the scripted event
- poor map and poor UI
- the animation being played over and over again when looting bodies
- constant run in to pirates, not so bad when you obtain flags/posts but still annoying, much better than what it was like in FC 2
- loads of chests around the place but they contain xxxx all really
- restricted area when you are in the middle of a mission
- saves and checkpoints system
- jumping from a small distance and taking a significant amount of damage
- quick time events
- very low volume for the voices, have had to turn sub-titles on as I cba to keep on adjusting speakers every time someone starts speaking and turning down afterwards

Main pros of the game for me are:

- the bow :p :D
- graphics and performance
- open world
- the wild life
- hunting and getting plants etc. to make better equipment, medical stuff
- plenty of weapons to choose from and enough customisation stuff
- plenty of things to do
- can play stealth like or go Rambo style
- some fun moves

The AI is ok, not amazing.

Only played a bit of SP and MP,- Due to work - but I really like the game. Ok, it's not perfect but it is a bit of a god send for PC players.

Just been skimming through pages of moaning

I wondered where all the bad guys were when I was driving around, I then did the' kill 4 rabid dogs' part & when I went back to my car there were pirates everywhere lobbing grenades etc. managed to get in my vehicle & drove off to find baddies on every junction, roadside buildings, bridges etc.

The Poker chips and playing cards.. You can't use them to cheat in poker..?

The loot articles themselves don't serve a purpose at all do they. It's nice that it fleshes out the world and the descriptions often aim to be humerous. Feels like maybe they wanted to more than just items in your backpack but they didn't have time to flesh the idea out. I can dig that, at least they put something in there other than just money. The poker cards seem like a missed opportunity, 'less I'm missing something..

Quite enjoying it so far. Don't feel graphics have moved on that much from Farcry 2 but as I'm trying to play through that also i need to go back and have try it to see.
Much more wildlife in this one. Just got ambushed by a load of komodo dragons which was unexpected, just when I engaged a patrol too which was right after I completed a mission.

Not quite sure where the game saves pick up from sometimes! Ie, after finishing a mission and dying I restarted back where I picked up the shotgun but my old gun was gone (the one I dropped for a shotgun). Have I still finished the mission or am I back at the start, not easy to tell. Only using autosaves so far.

It's good to see that many of the negative comments given about FarCry 2 have been heard and much improved in Farcry 3.

Not very often I play right through games these days (partly due to time constraints) but can see me finishing this one over the coming months.
