Far Cry 3 Thread

Loving this game, I do smile when people slate it but I bet they loved Crysis.

This is Crysis just without the nanosuit.

Well, not really, I hate to be that guy but this game farcry has been "consolized".

Crysis was more fast paced (obvious result of linearity as opposed to slow open world).

Had destructible environment, you could jump on anything you want while in farcry 3 apparently a 1 foot obstacle is not passable unless the game allows it through "press space", it's essentially an interaction with object rather than free flowing movement. I hate it that I can not jump onto small rocks.

As far as I remember in crysis you could go into houses through windows, jump + crouch, in this game for some odd reason developers though entering through windows is bad >_>

Another instance in early missions on a boat, there was a huge hole in the hull, I wanted to sneak into the boat through that hole, it was more than big enough to fit but no...invisible wall blocking the path.

Also I hate it that whenever I enter a building or a house I do it automatically, again interacting rather than free flowing, I didn't want to close the door I want to leave it open god damn it.

The little bits make it so annoying I can't handle this, definatelly nothing like crysis, everything good that crysis is not present in this game grrr :p

Edit: I also hate it that the game bombards me with usless common sense tips that won't go away until I press the damn "esc". Argh, every little thing I do it pops up.

The first time i played Crysis i thought wow, graphics are awesome and immersion is fantastic and even thou you just go from a to b there still felt like there was freedom. I'm not really feeling the same about far cry 3

I'm still enjoying it despite some really stupid bits of the game which have clearly been overlooked.

The set of missions for Buck... "see if you can find where to go next"
Then you look at the map, it shows you exactly where you need to go and says "talk to buck" on the overview.... Then you get there, and Jason says "how did you know to be here?!"
It spoils any immersion there actually could have been at that point!

Some of the bits that in another game would have been puzzles... Why does everything have to have great big flashing lights over it? Could have atleast had an option to turn them off in the game!

If this game is open to modding a lot of the little niggles out of the game it could be fantastic.
Really annoys me that there is a complete lack of destructible environment in the game, with the fire burning it would have been fantastic to watching trees and buildings start collapsing...

If you liked doing it, why does it matter that there is know "achievement"?

Isn't collecting them all an achievement?

It doesn't really matter, although having an achievement for getting half the relics (which is easy) seems silly when there are in fact 120.

The bits like that are why I will probably never finish the game tbh..so annoying! My favourite is where you have a mission in some ancient caves, and the objective comes up to 'explore the caves', but there is a massive yellow dot on the screen and radar telling you exactly where to go, and a message pops up every few seconds reminding you what to do...and then when you get to where you have to go, just in case you couldn't work it out, the objective is flashing yellow as well.

How they played this game before release and thought that that worked is beyond me!...it wouldn't be so bad if there were only a few early missions like that, but it is all though the game!. after 20 hours playtime I was getting pop-ups during missions telling me to press c to crouch ffs!

Way too much hand holding, also way too easy stealth, the stealth is ridiculous, pop a 'kill em in one shot' syringe and you can take an entire outpost out with half a clip of the Bushmaster in 4 seconds. But then the stealth gets broken as the second the base go on 'hunting' mode where they know somebody is there but are searching for Jason, they'll see you through bushes, grass, and even hills, that they couldn't see you through before. -_-

Great game, 8/10 for me but held back from being a 10 by so many stupid design choices and annoying mechanics, lack of radiant missions and lack of content. There is a lot but really there's only about 20 hours worth including side missions and hunter/wanted dead etc. There is a ton of artificial game lengthening with loot chests/relics/letters, but I wouldn't say they count towards the overall length, so 20 seems solid. Decent amount and it is repayable but meh, an island this huge has so much potential they missed out on.

It's for the console retards, would have been nice if they could have disabled them for PC tbh. -_-

Well, I've just finished it. Boss kills are retarded in the way they do them, really doesn't make sense.

Even despite the niggles and minor annoyances already mentioned throughout this thread, I'm glad I played it through to completion which was something I never did with FC2.

I'm loving the game it is flawed in many ways but in general it is very enjoyable IMO.
Also I think mods are going to be a big part of the game in the near future as the bundled map editor is very good can't wait to see what the community comes up with.

Farcry was great until the Trigens turned up then it went quickly downhill IMO.
Farcry 2 had some big ideas, some were great (Factions IMO) but others should have been cut at the idea stage, like who thought Malaria would be a fun gameplay mechanic? & respawning A.I. at the check points robbed you of any sense of accomplishment & made clearing them a chore.
Farcry 3 seems like a decent amalgamation of the two previous ones, I love the hunting aspect & capturing the safehouses but think they missed a trick by not having the A.I. try to recapture them, personally it's my favorite of the three a flawed but rewarding game.

Agree with that. The Trigens were unbelievably frustrating in the first game. Having them jump on you from 50m away and kill you in a single hit, whilst you try and kill them with barely any ammo... Crysis had a similar issue when the aliens first appeared, the difficulty just shot up through the roof!

Real shame the Ai don't recapture anything in Farcry3. :(
