Far Cry 3 Thread

Whole game is incredibly over-saturated much like FC1. It helps in a way as enemies are always nice and easy to spot due to their high clash colours.

This is massively dependant on your monitors gamma accuracy, I played on my calibrated work monitor and it actually has very well graded/balanced visuals.

I'm pretty sure they also added contrast / saturation sliders alongside the usual gamma which is nice to see.

True dat, default settings look gorgeous on a calibrated IPS.

I tried a side mission to kill a baddie with a knife, but cant find a knife in my weapons inventory, if I go to one of the weapons cabinets it says I already have one

I've had some good fights trying to take outposts with those heavy slow moving armoured pirates that seem immortal, however they don't like you driving a vehicle at them :p
I drove in one end & flattened the heavy dude & drove out the other end hitting the second one & straight back round to mow a few more down inc the, second heavy who was still standing, then I got burned to death by the reinforcements arriving.
I realised the reinforcements needed stopping so I restarted & mined the bridge & road first, still quite a battle with repeatedly driving off out of sight to heal myself but could not repair the vehicle, why do we have to waste a weapon slot just to carry the repair tool ??

I've found there's 2 types, one with a welders mask on with an exposed back of head, a bullet here will kill them first time. Second ones you really need the perk that lets you knife them. Just sneak up, knife, carry on.

You get 500xp if you knife them.
You get 550xp for taking an outpost with no alarms.
You get 1500xp for taking an outpost with no one noticing.

You should always try and turn the alarms off if possible. Shoot them to break that alarm but others can be set off, or sneak in and use one and it turns them all off. Exploding barrels and releasing animals doesn't make them notice you unless you use a non-silenced weapon.

Tbh, one I had a silenced sniper rifle the game was far too easy.

I'm finding it difficult to care about the exp. I can't be the only one who thinks the skill system is possibly the most arbitrary thing ever invented?

What it boils down to is 'unlock a few takedown skills we've held back for the sake of it', 'improve your healing/max health' and 'here are some other minor improvements to use those skill points on'. Thats pretty much all of it. There isn't anything in there that will genuinely enhance a certain style of play which makes it seem utterly pointless. Not to mention most are restricted for no reason what so ever until some arbitrary time in the future and you get so many skill points if you don't just do the main missions that you can unlock everything anyway.

I don't understand that bit, I thought the only way to take an outpost was to kill all the pirates in it, do you mean stealth kill one by one & hope the others don't notice

I can't remember if it doesn't matter if they find corpses so long as they don't spot you or not. But you can just kill some of them out of sight or use the takedown drag and pull them out of sight.

Or you can release an animal and then take out the stragglers with a bow really quickly.

I just completed Bucks stuff that was messed up although I'm kind of gonna miss him.

how many here on high end pc's with top end vga cards having random or many lockups with 1.3 and the amd latest beta drivers?

have read that its happens more on high end cpu's/vga etc, doesn't affect medium to lower cards as much, so hopefully some better drivers and another patch will make it more stable for some :( me hopefully great game but updated my rig to play this and it's rubbish for me, can't get 10mins out of it now without a lockup / freeze of the whole pc.

was thinking it was overclocking or other issues at my end but after reading many, too many threads online / steam etc seems im not the only one, 1000's are having the same issues, even turning game down to dx9 doesn't work either for those that are having the trouble.

and yes i have tried these,

I'm running an i7-3770 at stock and 8gb ram. Only running on an 8800GT though but running at medium settings and on DX9.

What do you mean by lock ups? Another member asked about pauses in the game which I get. Basically it just seems to freeze, he stated waiting 5-10 seconds and it'd start again, I just alt+tab out and back in and it works.

Dont get me wrong, sorry to hear of your issues.

But these days, I dont buy games on release (one or two maybe) but wait a while for them to get patched up first etc..

Also buy them in the sales so I have a back log to work through.

Haven't played much SP, been too busy with the MP side of things. MP maps and weapons are excellent, not too boring and always packed with action, but not stupid like CoD. weapons are very very balanced, which is excellent, even better than BF3, CoD.

Only downside is P2P.
