Far Cry 3 Thread

When it can't run dx11 mode and everyone else seems to be able to that indicates an issue with the machine or the user. Perhaps you're overclocking too high and overheating your card or forcing it into 2D mode to cool down? Have you stress tested your overclocks using Kombustor or another test?

Also runs maxed out in dx11 on my slightly overclocked 470.

i ran it maxed out 8 MSAA etc and i got 23 fps. its not an overheating issue atall.

don't worry about it mate.

its the game. why ticks me off is it looks worse than FC2 yet it runs as if its a photo realistic mod for crysis.

i dont see the graphical improvement over FC2 to merit such a huge performance hit.

all a con.

thought DX11 was meant to run better than dx10.

yet to see this be the case.

Well it's your opinion against everyone elses on here. That might tell you something about how objective you're being in your comparisons.

DX11 isn't some magic pill that suddenly gives fantastic graphics. It's just a new set of standards that hardware manufacturers must comply with to provide a standard API to software developers. That has little to do with which will look better, however having said that and having looked over some screenshots from FC2 and FC3 I really have no idea where you're getting the notion that FC2 is a better looking game. Granted it was good looking for its time but compared to FC3 it's draw distances are short, it's distant LOD models are low detail and it's upclose foliage and grass is blurry. Compare that to FC3 with huge draw distances, decent models at long distance (apart from the hideous sprite trees when you're on the hangglider) and crisp vegetation. Lighting also seems much better in FC3 with deeper shadows and a much better feeling of being deep in the forest when you're running through trees. FC2 just adopted the "let's make everything brown" approach to colouration and lighting.

Agree with some of that, not sure about the FC2 bit as I can't remember, only that it ran well. Think others should realize we are talking about the retail version of the game before they tell us how well their version runs ;)

Nothing has come close to the original Crysis for physics relating to bullets hitting even grass....I still find it stunning years on !

Definitely sounds like something on your end youdsy. Game is running great for me on my i5 750 and 7850 2GB MSI OC @ 1080P. Everything on max except shadows set to medium, post fx is turned of (looks better and a huge boost in FPS), HBAO and I could turn the AA up to to 2 but I don't need to since I use sweetFX.

Frames very rarely drop below 50, usually always around the 60 mark.

There is times when it will micro stutter every now and then but iirc this is due to AMD drivers or/and the game.

As for FC 2 VS FC3, I disagree, FC 3 looks much better. Although the physics aren't as good. But the most important thing for me is the gameplay, I got bored of FC 2 very quickly and a lot of stuff ****ed me of with it, enjoying FC 3 a lot more.

Oooh, have you got your or a FC3 SweetFX config please Nexus18?

I've just started playing this and haven been keeping up with this thread, sorry.

Just finished it, both endings were ****e.

Overall maybe 7-8/10, let down by the engine being a bit dodgy, the voice acting being either brilliant or bloody awful and a bad ending.

Please tell me what setting you are using in game and in ccc, i have 2x 7850 and the games runs like a bag of tripe:(

Probably a crossfire issue, try with a single 7850

Disable post FX

Mess around with the GPU buffer frames, iirc mine is set to 1

I haven't messed around with CCC, just left everything at default.

Cheers, I shall take a look later. :)

No problem :)

Same thing happened to me & a few others, I posted something further back, you have to double click something on screen
I remember, you have to double click each icon in the different categorys then Dennis teaches you the move and then you can progress through the game.

Thanks, I'll give it another go and see what happens.

MaxFPS='30' or something along those lines and put it next to V-Sync in the gamesettings file, then save it and make it read only.

Runs fine once you do that.

I've just started this and am really enjoying it so far.

-=Minimal spoilers=-

Have done the 'cave mushrooms' mission and have now been assigned one relating to a beached boat with a comms room.

I've been trying to largely ignore the missions and instead explore, hunt, have fun, do towers and bases etc, and I'm having an awesome time with a silenced sniper, a longbow and a rarely-used backup assault rifle, but it bothers me that so many of my skill options are locked at the moment (say "you must complete more missions before unlocking this skill") - is there a critical point in the story that it's worth following it to before going off on your own for maximum flexibility? If so, without too many spoilers, how many more missions would you say it's worth doing?

Specifically I want to unlock more from the Spider Tatau options for more fun takedowns and the two-skins-per-kill perk.

thanks.

Bought this game off MM, but get CRC Errors while installing. I can try ignoring the error and it completes installation but crashes at startup.

Done all the tips i can find online, and only get a keep reinstalling adivce from uplay  Im not going to endlessly keep re-dowloading a 9gig file in the hope it magically works.

That would be your PC, test the memory, it is a crazy setup with U-play that it can not CRC check the install like Steam.

I would suggest doing a couple of story missions amongst the other fun things you are doing to keep things ticking along and unlocking.

I spent too much time away from the story missions and started to feel a little burnt out with the repetition.
