Hello. I went from 344.75 WHQL to newest drivers 347.88 WHQL and now i have random driver crashing in Far Cry 4. Nvlddmkm Display driver stopped responding and has recovered. Application stopped. Then i saw on events: Nvlddmkm Display driver stopped responding and has recovered. Its very random .
Its problem with driver or my its just my card? ( i am using stock Asus Strix 980 ). All other games runs without even single crash. I tested Unigine Heaven for 10 hours, without crash. I tested Metro Last Light for few hours without crash too.

Using 344.75 WHQL all was fine.

All my pc is stock, cpu is 4790k stock. GPU is on stock too.

From what i know, crashing display driver Nvlddmkm its always graphic card oc ( hardware ) failure? Rma graphic card?
TDR's are always happening because of "bad/broken" hardware?Or it can be software too?

Somebody say:"Another popular thing is when nVidia optimizes the driver, and it pushes the card even harder and reveals a card crash, then people blame the driver, when the new driver is simply revealing a problem with the card."
So i have propablly card issue when on 347.88 i have driver crashing only on Far Cry 4? Because driver pushes the card harder and is simply revealing a problem with card. It can be true?

Reduce the clocks a little to find out ;)

Sounds like you have a litecoin miner virus on your machine.

Did you happen to download any torrents or strange files lately?

You have to do a complete virus scan to get rid of this. It usually resides in your Temp directory

I installed 350 HOTFIX. Far Cry 4 played 24 hours without driver crash. So on 347.88 my card is just unstable? Is this because driver 347.88 pushing my card harder and card is unstable? Or its was only driver issue?

I installed 350.12 WHQL ( GTA V ready ) . And game is crashing video driver still.
Only on 350.05 is not crashing. I tested 24 hours Far Cry 4 on 350.05 and no single crash. TOday i installed 350.12 WHQL and after 5 mintues crash. Its something with my card if on 2 versions of drivers my card are not stable?

344.75 WHQL - no crashing
350 HOTFIX - no crashing
350.12 WHQL - crashing video driver in Far Cry 4
347.88 WHQL - crashing video driver in Far Cry 4

I think i resolved issue. I downgraded from update 1.7 to 1.6. After that i dont see more driver crashing in Far Cry 4 using 350.12 WHQL.But i will take a look further. So how this is possible that patch was causing TDR?

Updated not helped.:( Crash today morning.

Overall I am getting very random driver crash only in Far Cry 4. Black screen and Application stopped . Then i saw on events: Nvlddmkm Display driver stopped responding and has recovered. Its very random , sometimes i can play even 12 hours without driver crash and sometimes like today its crashed driver after 5 minutes of started game.

Only Far Cry 4 sometimes crash after 5 minutes, but mostly often i can play 12 hours without driver crash.

Using 350.12 WHQL. Also i tested 347.88 WHQL and the same problem.

Its something with my card?

Guys i dont know what to do now. RMA my Strix 980 because sometimes its crashing driver only in that game? Is any chance that on another Strix 980 example i will be have the same problem?

Have you done what I said two days ago? Its in the 4th post of this thread

I was getting some odd driver hangs when playing evolve with the most recent nvidia drive update, seemingly for no reason, seems to be fixed by disabling windows aero themes for the time being.

Reduce the clocks as suggested. A 60mhz decrease might be all you need as I've had the same issue in the past (Gigabyte gtx 780Ghz). Used Evga Precision. No problems after that.

I dont want a mess with clocks\voltages. Card must work as it suggested by factory. If dont working well then RMA. RMA my Strix 980 because sometimes its crashing driver only in that game? Is any chance that on another Strix 980 example i will be have the same problem?

i tested Heaven on extreme 2 times. One time i left running 10 hours, without crash. Second time i left running for 8 hours , without crash too. Also i played other games, like WatchDogs, Crysis 3, Metro LL and all fine.
Only FAR Cry 4 is crashing my display driver very randomly, i will say very rarely. Screen turns to a black for a second and then app crash. Event viewer says about display crash.
One time i can play FC4 even 12 hours without crash, second time it will crash after 5 minutes. It can be game issue even if it triggers TDR?

Well, I accept that an application crashes, but NOT that it triggers a TDR. If Far Cry 4 crashes in a "normal way" (screen freeze, Windows message telling that the application has crashed), fine. But TDRs are a big no-no.

I have important question now. It can be game issue even if it triggers TDR?
But all I want to know is: can a hangup in a game cause a TDR? Game can cause TDR? Or its only hardware fault?

I have had complete lock ups requiring a reboot with Far Cry 4 ever since I installed the Titan X. My youngest son now has my Titan and has no problem at all and we have played FC4 together in CO-OP when the lock ups have often occurred. The lockups happen randomly, sometimes after maybe 20mins and sometimes after a couple of hours. There doesn't seem to be anything in common going on in game between the lock ups. Music usually keeps on playing and keyboard remains active at first.. this usually means (from past experience) that the graphics driver/card is the cause. The only way to recover is to perform a hard reset.

I've seen quite a few people complaining about this on the web and most of them seem to have a 900 series which are all Maxwell chips.

I suspect this is probably a variant of the crash the OP is experiencing.

GTA V has not locked up once, nor has any other game or benchmark...

you need to take a step back a little and calm down. There is nothing wrong with your graphics card. On 347.88 FC4 was causing the driver to crash on mine every so often and then I went to the latest 350.12 and its crashing a lot more frequently.

IT IS NOT your GPU. I thought it was my OC so I took it back and it still crashes.
It is more likely to be the driver. Looks like nvidia have broken something in the driver.
If it bothers you that much what you need to do is go back to 344.75 which is the Far Cry 4 game ready driver and just use that whilst you play FC4. I went back to that driver and the game didnt crash.
It happens all the time its had done in the past. Dont worry about it just enjoy the game.
(btw the poster going on about the virus was either pulling your leg or didnt know what they were talking about)

I am still using the latest 350 driver and I am not too bothered about the crashes. All you need to do to recover is alt tab to the desktop, bring up task manager and end task on FC4, not sure why DragonRR needs to do a hard reset as this way works everytime.

Could still be the cards or another HW causing it. For example, a game ready driver might not optimise the use of a card and when a later driver does it might be revealing a HW problem.
I'm playing FC4 with a 780 Ti at the moment and latest driver and it runs flawlessly albeit a little slow when the action is fast, but absolutely no crashes.
If the next driver release doesn't fix your issues I'd look at the HW.Best way to rule out a graphics card issue would be to try it in another similar spec machine and playing the same game with latest drivers, not convenient I know.
