Far Cry ..revisited

No.

FC multiplayer is regarded as pretty poor out of the box, and the delay in SDK tools release meant that it has been largely shunned by the modding community.

It's not the sort of game design which lends itself to multiplayer anyway IMO.

Here's a screenshot:

1280 x 1024, Max settings, 8 AF, HDR :)
A64 settings on XP Pro :)
No AA dammit :(
Had to resize to upload so may have lost quality :(

Notice the difference to the cliffs accross the river compared to normal (need a normal screenie)? Much better then without the A64 settings & almost no performance loss!

It's quite an achievement that FarCry is still one of the best-looking PC games around almost two years after it was released.

Crysis looks set to continue the legacy. GameDaily have a FarCry Xbox360 vs PC comparison trailer which shows some of the impressive strides capable in Crytek's improved CryEngine.

The great thing about PC games and PC hardware is that when a game is released that really pushes the boundry on the visual front you can go back later and turn up the eye candy.
I remember when Far Cry was first released and the top card at the time was a 9800XT -I was limited to playing at either 1280 x1024 without AA or a lower res with 2xAA. The game used to drop to below 20fps and stutter in some jungle levels and fights.
Then a month after release the x800 pro cards appeared and suddenley Far Cry could be enjoyed at 1600x 1200 with a lttle AA.
The next updtae was thanks to Nvidia which allowed HDR!....and now I can have 1920x1200 Wide Screen, 16XAF, 4X AA, Max detail and HDR @7 which looks superb!

I am sure other releases like Morrowind Oblivion and the next Far Cry will follow the same pattern....thats why PC tweaking and upgrading is so rewarding IMO!

I for one have had my moneys worth out of Far Cry in the last two years!
