Far Cry ..revisited

The next updtae was thanks to Nvidia which allowed HDR!....and now I can have 1920x1200 Wide Screen, 16XAF, 4X AA, Max detail and HDR @7 which looks superb!

I just started playing again on my Dell 24" at 1920x1200. It's the fact that the textures were done brilliantly that the game looks so beautiful still.

Anyway, I digress. What is the minimum card you need to be able to play the game in HDR? Do you need Shader Model 3.0 cards?

Very little seems to be known about it, originally it was penned in to be released around August last year but this has now slipped to 27/05/06. That's quite a big slippage for an expansion pack, wouldn't suprise me if Crytek halted work on it to concetrate on Crysis.

Hey all first post here,
I am a moderator on UBIs Far Cry forum, nice to see there is still interest in the game here...

The MP game still has a small but loyal core, with 100-600 online at any time, while not CS, it is enough to get good quality games especially in Europe, where strangely it is a lot more popular than the US.

To clarify a couple of things, the comparison vid you saw isnt the Cryengine2, it is what Ubisoft Montreal were able to do with the Xbox version of the Cryengine for the 360 version of Far Cry Instincts.
Ubisoft were the publishers of Far Cry and own the World wide rights to the name, sadly for the franchise point of view, Crytek are now signed to EA and Crysis will be published by them. So it is believed that any expansion pack would have to come from UBI themselves. The pack appeared on their official release list around a year ago but dropped off it and at this time isnt on their release schedule for 06. I hope I am wrong but I will believe in the expansion when i see the marketing machine rolled out.

The "beta" patch mentioned was 1.4 and isnt a beta, its a leaked very early version of the next patch which is being developed by Crytek in conjunction with the community. While it does give HDR and AA to the ATI cards it is not supported by Crytek or UBI and WILL cause you to be kicked by Punkbuster if you play on line. Which leads to another point, if you include the additional 64bit content on a 32bit platform, make sure you remove it before playing on line; again Punkbuster will kick you for a nonstandard installation.

Those of you with tech difficulties are welcome to visit our tech help section, while we dont have the depth of knowledge that the guys here do, we are familiar with most of the quirks of the game and may be able to help

You can get some info on crysis here and here Crysis HQ

Hope to see some of you either on the board or online

Cheers

So why can't I get this too work on my system.

I have installed farcry of dvd.

then extracted the 64bit pack and the extra content pack to two seperate folders on my hardrive using cmd.

Then I copied over the folders from each into the Farcry installation folder overwriting folders when asked.

When I load farcry i get the AMD64 spalsh sceren but thats it.The game won't load.

What am I doing wrong?
I have tried now 3 times with this and it just hangs.

In device manager i get program not responding.
I have read the instructions many times and cannot see what I'm doing wrong?

Does the 32bit farcry need to be updated to 1.33 patch before applying the 64 content?

Help

1st question: You do have XP64 or a Vista beta?

Not sure I follow what you are doing, are you manually trying to
extract/install the 64bit content?
Why not let the installer do it for you?

Try this thread for the patch order.

But note that the 1.33 does not currently support online play for 64bit, you may be able to play in legacy 32bit mode...

EDIT: If the installation gets screwed up, the easiest way out is usually to uninstall all the patches you have installed, in REVERSE order, then run the repair facility from the DVD. Sometimes it is neccessary to use the Microsoft Installer clean up utility to repair the registry.

No I am running windows XP PRO 32 bit.
I want to run the enhaced 64 bit content on my 32 bit os.That people have been doing sucessfully.

But i cant get it to work  :o

Woot!

Thanks peep's!

Got it working now thanks.I installed the latest patches for the 32 bit then did the 64 bit extraction again and now its working.

Looks superb. :)

Am i right that I can't play online with the 64 bit mod?

Worse...
With the 64 bit content installed you will be kicked from all servers running a decent Punkbuster config...

The readme in the DL i linked tells you which you need to remove to get back on line...

Even with the full 64bit ver and XP64 you cant play 64 bit on line atm, patch 1.33 doesnt support 64bit mode... :( It was on Cryteks "to do" list. Its not clear how this is effected by the sale of their remaining interest in the Far Cry Brand to Ubisoft...

Enjoy the new areas on "Pier"

Edit: @Cobra, depends on your rig, in most cases the textures and view distance are nice, but nothing special. (lol gotta put that in context; nothing special for Far Cry) The new areas are a change but dont add dramatically to the game... now if ever they release a MP patch for 64bit then I would say definately...

IIRC, there are no other games at all which run on the CryEngine. :(
They're onto CryEngine2 now for Crysis so I doubt anyone will want to license the old engine now.

Ubisoft just recently bought the rights to the engine I believe, as well as the far-cry brand.
Not sure if they'll be using the engine for anything other than FC though.

Don't know if anyone would like to help me but I installed FarCry for the first time last night and loaded the patches up to 1.33. I then DL'd the 1.4 patch with HDR and FSAA and copied over the two folders and booted up the game.

For some reason, the walls became transparent and the game unplayable. Can I get the HDR working without this beta patch?

Anyone got any ideas what went wrong? Have XP home and using the latest Geforce drivers (forgot what number)

Also, not bothered about going online so is it worth me DL the 64 bit content and run it on my 32 Home XP?

Thanks :)
