FARCRY 2 --- Officially , official of official threads! ---

Where are Tigers in Africa apart from in a Zoo may I ask , your the one who needs to get facts right ROFL :p:p

African Tiger
Although conventional wisdom has it that there never have been tigers in Africa, there is evidence from fossils that the sabre-tooth species was found in many parts of the continent until about a million years ago. The reason for their disappearance is unclear, but palaeontologists say it was probably caused by dramatic climatic changes opening up the savannahs.

So you've just confirmed that there are now no tigers in Africa, and there hasn't been for about 1 million years. His facts were spot on. :p

i have had a few crashes to desktop fro no reason, no error just back to desktop
Me too :(

Using Vista x64. Does the official patch fix anything? I downloaded it from Gamershell and now it tries to download whenever I run the game, I haven't bothered to try it out yet though...

SW.

all the guard posts, and the grid like map makes this game feel really linear actually. theres no big open spaces like in fallout3 for example which is truely openended. i was dissapointed =/

I Agree with you after playing for 4 days, getting very tired of driving, jump out, talk to some guy, run to car, drive, shoot, jump into car, get stopped by a gaurd post, eliminate said post, jump in car, return to some guy and get another mission....thats all you do all the time..oh and the annoying go get more drugs, which is the same as above. I guess im gonna have to give FO3 a try as this just doesnt deliver what i expected.

the game is ok for me, i thought after reading the first 50 odd pages that the respowning would be bad, but it's not so rough, would be good if the dead were dead and more of the buddies had shown up by the time you return, quite enjoying it so far but will prob get board as the above post states it's more of the same. however i will finish it and must give online a try

Put it down for a week to see if that would help matters. First jump back into the game and im eyeing up an enemy compound through the scope of my .50cal, and... wait a minute, i'm not breathing! or moving at all! or.. wait, no, i remember.. *yawn*

I then went to swim across a river to sneak to another vantage point, thinking i was all clever, only to be faced with yet another ever so slightly steep incline i couldn't walk run or jump up. Forced to go down the road or path, AGAIN. This really is far more linear than people think. You just have a few more options of arriving at the same place than usual.

Just bought this after initial resistance over DRM/SecureROM, but at the end of the day if it's a game you really, really want then you have to swallow pride and get on with it. Besides, I wanted a DX10 to push my rebuild and Vista install to see if it was worth it (and so far, it seems to be).

Initial impression is good though very similar to Crysis. I've only played up to the point where you first go to Mike's Bar and thus far despite the claims re open gameplay things do seem a bit linear. It looks and feels very similar to Crysis albeit in an African setting. The malaria thing could get to be a PITA later on I think. Combat, again very similar to Crysis although I've only done the first couple of small skirmishes so far.

Only complaint is that the world seems a bit empty - even in the main town where I've just arrived to locate my malaria tablets, there's just a handful of mercs standing around no hustle and bustle that you might expect.

It says in the intro that just about all of the civis have fled.

I reckon that if more animals & NPC's are added it will slow down the game on all but the higher spec systems & a total no go for consoles, the reason it runs as well as it does must be partly due to the lack of any of the stuff we had in Crysis such as small creatures & fish etc.

Nah, there weren't exactly animals running around constantly in Crysis either...some of the more foliaged areas in Far Cry 2 look much better than than my Crysis install, and they run a HELL of a lot better.

And Crysis is tweaked to buggery.

In Crysis there were flocks of birds running around on the beach, crabs, frogs, butterflies, birds in the sky you can shoot down, shoals of tropical fish & plankton in the sea etc. all this contributed to making Crysis a system hog & have been avoided in FC2 for that reason

Ive really enjoyed most aspects of the game so far, the constant respawning of enemies does grate a bit though. Looks pretty nice as well and isnt a buggy system hog like crysis, run it at 1920x1200, no aa, most settings on very high and it plays quite nicely. Purchased the deluxe wooden box edition (only copy left in the shop) some nice bits and pieces including a tent size t-shirt:D

That's why I was talking about the foliaged areas specifically...as I said.

I actually had better FPS near the sea where all the birds and fish where to be honest.

I very much doubt the creatures in crysis have system hogging ai routines. Crytek knew their engine would need a good machine just for graphics, why would they include creatures that would slow it down more?

FC2 could easily have more creatures if you can have quite a few enemy with complex ai.

Has anyone experimented with the variables in the console ?
press to bring up the console & then press ? (press question mark key)

then type gfx ! ( with exclamation mark)

& you get terrain , sun. shadow , water etc variables, must be loads of stuff that can be fiddled with if you know what your doing
