I was once put off buying Farcry 2 as all the reviews was saying how poor it is/was, Anyway I picked it up in a Steam sale only just got around to installing it i'm about 3 hours in and I gotta say it's really quite good I wish i picked it up sooner..

So why all the hate for what is a good game??

I quite like it, although the gameplay is slow and the stealth is rubbish, and theres a patrol in a jeep every 3 minutes...

I enjoyed it. Yes the respawning check points were annoying and having deal with having malaria was a pain, but the majority of the game was enjoyable.

2 reasons. The first is that Far-cry 1 is a very good game and this isn't really a sequel at all. It's just a FPS set in the jungle. The other reason is that it's potentially a very good game but with silly flaws such as the re-spawning.

This may as well signify Doom 4's release with all the hellspawn that will flood out due to the thread title! :D

I liked some aspects of the game such as the fire mechanic, visuals and sound. However, weapons jamming all the time and endless respawns got to be a real pain in the rear very fast. No matter how far the enemy was away from me, their vehicles always caught up - it was comical, and the fact that you couldn't mod it was the final nail in the coffin. :)

Yeah why didn't the devs sort out the Re-Spawning problem?

I think the other issue was the missions.

Go here on the map... kill someone.... drive all the way back.... "Noes checkpoint respawn" die and do it all again.....

just felt there was no tactics what so ever.

Especially it being a jungle scenery, could have made missions of sniping out someone in a woods far away ect...

The patrols were intensely annoying and I wanted another relatively simple romp through azure seas, pristine white beaches and verdant jungles.

What I got was a fractured, open ended and arduous slog through dusty plains and filthy shanty towns.

They definitely meant well and it's technically highly impressive but they ruined the original style that made the first game such simple and immersive fun.

.

1: It wasn't anything like Farcry 1
2: Killing anybody was pointless as they just respawned 5 minutes later.
3: Once you have completed the first 5 missions every other missions premise was the same.
4: It wasn't anything like Farcry 1

I liked running over animals in the jeep, it looked great and wasn't a bad game I thought. Spawning got boring though. I wish they'd release Far Cry 1 with updated graphics, I'd be happy with that tbh.

I remember Pc Gamer mag gave this 94%, I think partly because they had hyped the game in the mag for a long time as being something a bit special and they didn't want to look stupid.

I have seen things in this game that are just broken, I have seen enemies facing away from me and somehow shooting me with pinpoint accuracy. Great engine though.

I loved Far cry 2

which bit did you like the bit where ALL the missions were identical or the fact that you kill all the bad guys at a check point, drive 5 meters up the road turn back and they are all back alive in the same spots with the same guns?
