Farcry 2, Why all the hate,

It had some good ideas, like the ability to have fun with fire. However, they ruined it by turning in it into a 'driving through the bush to repair weapons simulator'.

which bit did you like the bit where ALL the missions were identical or the fact that you kill all the bad guys at a check point, drive 5 meters up the road turn back and they are all back alive in the same spots with the same guns?

Lol I must admit it does get tedious at times, but I enjoyed the setting the most the savanna and jungles were great, driving around in the open world and searching for diamonds was fun. You are right about the missions tow they do get bit repetitive.

I enjoyed it! Sure, it was lame in some areas (the repetitiveness in particular) but the action was good, the setting was atmospheric and the graphics were nice. I'd probably install it again and have a blast for a few hours.

I finished Farcry 2. It wasn't the best but then I torrented it and I am bloody glad I did.

The graphics were quite nice and I liked the way that guns degraded.

However:
- The same 'go and shoot the jeep' missions over and over were boring. They were also miles away for no reason too.
- I would get detected at a checkpoint and an enemy jeep would be up my back end in 3 seconds
- Silly fast respawns
There will be other major flaws but I have forgotten as I did play the game in 2008!

Overall the game was awful after the first one. It had so much going for it yet had so many irritating issues that it ruined the whole game. If anyone had tested the game they would have known right away how annoying the flaws were. I played the game to the end thinking it must get better but it didn't.

Why the hate? Because it's a bloody atrocious game, and one that most certainly does not deserve the title of Far Cry. The first one was a masterpiece of a game.

:(

I bought this on steam when it was on sale dirt cheap, a fiver maybe? a while ago (christmas before last I think) but haven't gotten round to playing it yet lol.

I have actually completed it back at the time :p

No, its quite epic in someways - the sprawling wild fires, the gfx, and the feeling - next level it will be much better... which never materialises. Great game engine ruined by pathetic level and overall gameplay design.

On a side note, Unreal 2 was the most rubbish sequel to an awesome game by far. IMO, of course :)

Absolutely shocked by the thread title.

Sure, this game had some great moments and a huge amount of potential. The respawning checkpoints, however, took ALL of the fun out of it.

Another one here who hated the respawning checkpoints, could have been a great game but the chance was wasted.
