I originally played this through on first release, and thought it a fine but flawed title.

I decided to have a go at it recently, and a few patches later (along with some major hardware upgrades on my part), this has evolved into a very fine game indeed :D It plays a lot faster and seems much more polished.

It's very well presented, with a fine intro, music and style.

With the added benefit of higher resolution, 8AA and 16AF, I have to say, it looks absolutely stunning - even three years later! Its very vibrant and colourful, especially on 'Paradise' mode. At this quality it stands up to any game on any format available today, at least from a visual point of view. Thats a great endorsement for PC gaming. The in-game locations are atmospheric, and well thought out with a fair bit of variety.

I still feel the difficulty balance falls apart a bit later in the game, but there's still more than enough to keep the player interested. Some lousy voice acting lets it down a bit. Multiplayer is decent considering it's first and formost a SP game.

All I can say is roll on Crysis, because these guys really know what they're doing :)

Never really played it past the first couple of levels, might reinstall it and have a bash with everything maxed this weekend!

Guess this is what they are saying with Crysis, even a few years down the line there are still settings to turn up....

I played through it recently as well, was thoroughly enjoying it until I got to the bit with the big rocket-launching mutants in the volcano bowl near the end - then I remembered just how frustrating it was...

Go to options and click on the Default controls or something like that, your mouse will work fine then.

I too have been playing through again, after a year or so, and am amazed by just how good it still is. Fully patched, with HDR, full settings and using the 'cool' renderer it looks pretty much as good as anything out now, or probabaly until Crysis..and it runs like a dream even on my 7600gt.

The only bad things that stand out are the stupid taunts of the enemy's and their sometimes supernatural AI..Oh and the Trigens are a bit crap at times.

Bring on crysis, though not till I have a new graphics card.

Quality game is Far Cry - My current game at the moment. Re-installed it after seeing the beautiful Hi-Def video's at IGN of Crysis (cant bloody wait)

Crytek have a winning engine (cryEngine 2 - CryEngine 2 link ) that they are licensing out to third parties, so expect some quality DX10 games to come from those that use it.

Eh? The multiplayer is easily the worst of any game I have ever played.

WHAT !!!oNe!!!11, I'm in love with this game on multiplayer, I've been playing this online for 3 years straight nearly every other day at least, once you get into it it's brilliant, theres allways the same crowed of farcry fantactics (like me) on there having a laugth, if your just starting off choose to be a builder as if your not very good a killing then you can still help your team by building the walls/barriers back up + it nets you a lot of support points and pushes you up the leader board.

Yeah, it's a frustrating game in a couple of places. Deck of the carrier near the start of the game was tough, as was when you climb up the outside of the volcano (a level or two before the final one with the infamous crater). Was also a bit I remember took me a while when you first start meeting those mercs carrying shields.

However, it is quite satisfying when you finally nail it. When I started replaying the game I left it on normal difficulty because I didn't want to run into trouble on some of those sections... it's the kinda game which I think is worth playing again even if you don't up the difficulty setting. Nice wide range of environments, and of course many of us have better hardware now than we did 3 years ago or whenever we first played it. Plus of course the patches to add '64bit' content, HDR, SM3 etc.

To enable HDR get the latest patch 1.4 http://www.ubi.com/US/Downloads/Info.aspx?dlId=691 and use the following console command:

\r_hdrrendering 1 note a value between 1 and 11 can be set and I think most people agree 7 is the best combination of speed and looks.

It will work just fine with your PC - I get well over 60fps most of the time on a 7600gt and 3800X2.

I also use the 64bit added content patch, which improves some textures and increases view distance.

When I tried using HDR on a 6800gt (marginally slower than the 7600gt) I found it had a fair hit on performance and looked a bit 'buggy' in places.

Personally I reckon you are better off turning up all the other settings and leaving HDR disabled, for a better performance:visuals ratio. Much like CoD2 on older hardware in that regard (max settings with dx7 mode instead of medium settings dx9).

Well I have all the setting maxed as well - but at a res of 1024x768, maybe if you really have to run a higher resolution you will need to turn some things down, but not by much.

I played the whole game through on a XP2500 and 6800nu with HDR and high settings and it was mostly just fine.
