Farcry revisited

I didn't like the HDR in Farcry too much either. Seemed a little "tacked on" and not very realistic at all. Personally I think the paradise mode looks way better and lends itself well to the atmosphere of the game. Plus it hardly affects performace.

As for the game, definitely in my list of the best fps games ever. The thing I loved about it is how the experience improved dramatically as I went from a ti4200 > 9800pro > x1900xt; its looks and plays 10x better than it did when I first got it.

As for the difficulty of the game in the later levels, well its not too bad so long as you can use the scope on G36 rifle effectively to pull off headshots.

I just took this at the settings am currently playing at--1024x768 - HRD 7 - 64bit patch - cold renderer and all setting on max. Now I know some would not be able to tolerate the jaggies but for me this is the best compromise beween visuals and fps.

It's interesting how people have different opinions on the rendering mode.

The "Cold" mode used above is arguably the most realistic (also closest to HL2 style), but it has quite harsh edges/outlines and often looks almost like a painting/drawing someone has knocked up with some pencils. I mean, if someone showed me that screenshot five years ago I would probably have called it an 'artists impression'.

Meanwhile there are others that like the Paradise mode, which is a bit more vibrant on the colours front.

I think it's good that Crytek took the time to put these modes in, as it lets gamers choose what they style they prefer.

You see...

That screen mode looks just peachy to me...

I cant remember how my FC screen looked, but Im damned sure it was never as nice as that.

Im chucking FC on my box in a few minutes.

Im sure I can run it on my XP64 PC too... Just to compare the visuals... I know its better, you can see its better, but I have not actually done a head to had with it....

What is actually the difference between the rendering modes? anyone know of any sites with a screenshot comparison or something?

Paradise - brighter, more vibrant colours (best one imo)
Cold - Colours seem dull
Cartoon - just like a cartoon

What others are there?

Got a Quad core, 2x 8800 GTX system running at work with Oblivion and Stalker on it...and i'm using it to play Far Cry again :D love it

IIRC there's an "Improved" one, which looked very similar to the normal mode.

make sure you got the 64bit content patch installed, gives higher rez textures, greater view depth and generally makes the game better. still and awsome game and the engine is so efficient, iv seen newer games come oout now with worse graphics than farcry and they run slower than farcry too.

best game engine currently released in opinion, second comes the source engine. as for renderer mode i prefer paradise mode, look a bit like the just cause game, although cold mode is more realistic. wonderful game though.

I would love to play FC again as I've been through 2 upgrades since I played it last. Unfortunately, one of my installation CD's has vanished and I can't find it anywhere

What happens when you move house, like, 7 times in 4 years

The funny thing is I used to get laughed at in some quarters a year or two back when I suggested FC was the best engine, because Crytek aren't/weren't such a big name as id/Valve and people felt it was D3 or HL2 (also because they were newer, so they MUST be better, right?)

In years gone by I think Croteam didn't get the credit they deserved either. The Serious engine (used in Serious Sam first encounter) was really innovative, it had such incredible LOD optimisations that you could have huge, open levels coupled with dozens of enemies on screen at once and still have decent performance.

I installed the 64Bit patch & mostly everything looks better , but when i get close up to rocks they seems to have a second texture skin offest that looks blury.

One of your installation disks? How many did you get? I only got one disk in the case and that's it.

You've probably got the DVD version.
There was also a CDROM version in America, which is where he lives. It's too big to fit on one CD.
