Ive recently started playing star wars pod racer again and I love games that are nice and fast and also fast to play. I hate racing games that it says you are going 100mph but in fact it feels like your driving along at 20mph through a big fat oil slick!

Games that Id count as being fast are the following

Hi-Octane (fantastic game, doesnt work on XP :( )
Star Wars Pod Racer
Ballistics
Rallisport Challenge
Trackmania & Trackmania sunrise

Who else loves these types of games and are there any more you would recommend?

edit - forgot a couple

Flatout 2
Destruction Derby 1 & 2

Quake 3 Arena.

think he meant racing games:p other one Ilike but not on PC is F-Zero series, and yeah paying sim games after playing fast ones is just mundane. DiRT feels nice and fast when hugging corners and scraping trees. Can't remember if POD was a fast game or not.

are yeh. I remember POD. My mate could run it with mmx and i couldnt. Was a great game from what i remember.

So was Megarace and megarace 2 if anyone remembers them. There was a crazy guy in the videos i think!

F-Zero GX.

So fast it'll make your eyes melt.
It's a damn good game too. Rock solid on Master difficulty too :/

Quakeworld is pretty quick as far as FPS go, but if we are talking racers then I seem to remember Rollcage being pretty crazy. Played it on a LAN back in '99 and it was one of those games that actually gave me butterflies due to the feeling of speed and not feeling in control before stacking it into a wall.

About 8 years old now so not sure how it would run under XP/Vista. There's also a sequel, Rollcage II.

As a general note, I reckon one of the reasons why many racing games feel 'slow' is the typical camera angle from above+behind the car. You may find that switching to a cockpit/bumper view makes many games feel faster.

nah, play ballistics or star wars racer and you'll see what i mean. Doesnt matter about camera angle at all.

Im trying to find my hi-octane cd but am having no luck at all, bet its long lost at home. No where i can even find a demo of it either to see if it works ok in dosbox

Is it on PC or are there any videos for it?

It's nintendo property so not available on PC :[

Gamecubes are as cheap as chips though....

edit: Plus Burnout 2 on GC
(whole Burout series really)

lol :p

I found Pod quite slow compaired with most other games. Screamer was a quick game, loads of fun. Ahhhh, they were the days.

are the days. Ive just found and installed rollcage demo and had a couple of games. Old games are way better than all this new rubbish like CM dirt, bioshock and WOW.

Just give me decent, easy to use internet play for old games such as star wars racer, blood and GTA and ill be more than happy. Starcraft is still one of the most popular online games and its years old

I may be wrong as it is many years since I played the demo, but I seem to remember SW Ep1 Racer had a shallower camera angle than standard road racers, because your craft is in the air. Or in other words, your view is (relatively) close on a vertical level to where the craft is, compared to when you have a car on the road and the camera is up above it.

Try playing a standard racer with a bumper cam and you (might) see what I mean ;)

How is the thread this long with nobody mentioning Wipeout??

Are yeh crap, forgot about wipeout. I had it on pc but never got on with it and it seemed quite slow  Wasnt it suppose to be the fastest game ever or something, or Wipeout XL was on PS1

StarCraft, it's the pace and balance that set it aside from any other dull RTS game in existence!

yeh ure right, all other RTS just seem slow really. Hard to explain but people know once they have played it a few times

Damn that was a fast game, when you hit top speed... WOAH!!

When I first hovered and got the yellow boost thing it neally sent me into an epileptic fit. Almost as good as the 2012 olympic games video! (but not quite)
