Hi, my current harddrive is pretty new, its a 250gb sata 7,200 but has been running very slow lately. i guess it would be a ok for storage but i can feel a real drag on the operating system with it.

i need probs about 60GB fast harddrive for OS only and few other bits, maybe a 120GB, which one would you say is good, my pc supports sataII. looking for something 10,000 RPM or 15,000RPM?

Use HD-TACH 3.0 its more accurate, it does work in Vista64 BTW.

I would exept 75-78MB/Sec depending on Mobos Controler, HD Tune used to read high on my Silicon Image and low on my Nvidia.

thanks! i have about £300 to spend one one just to let you know :D

speed is more important, but some space would be good. can somone show me some on this site. (my pc is sataII vista64 bit)

hmm... dont like the look of those things.

Yeah well they're eyewateringly expensive so as I say, not really a practical option.

Anyway, the only SATA drives that are 10k RPM is the Raptor's and there's no 15K RPM Sata disks that I know of. Your only option there is SCSI or SAS drives. In either case you then have to factor in the cost of a controller, which by itself can become a non-trivial financial proposition.

So unless you're prepared to spend silly money, your options boils down to a new Raptor or 2, or alternatively one of the newest perpendicular recording high density 7200 RPM disks, which are actually a smidge faster than the Raptors in sustained transfer rate (albeit still slower on access time.)

Hope that helps!
