Any suggestions?

Had an ip 4 then note 3 then 5 (all survived with no scratches or cracks over maybe a total of 7 years) now I'm stuck with a s8+

After less than 10 months I hate the curved screen it's hard to press items on the edge, screen has many scratches, I was never able to get a screen protector that did not fall off, its been dropped mutiple times cracked corners scratched screen.

Note8 here, and I share your pain. I'll also be looking for that in its replacement.

My wife's got a Huawei P20 (Pro, I think) and I'd definitely consider getting one (or the latest iteration).

Personally sticking with my Note 4 - don't like a lot of the fads with newer phones especially the curved/bevelled/edged/notched screen stuff at all - don't care if they make models that have it but not liking that it is replacing other options like a plain old screen in too many cases.

I would still be using my note 4 but it caught go slower and slower itus then became unusable

Fortunately mine has been alright so far (other than 1-2 times when it got very cold) sadly often in the back of my mind though due to how many people have had it happen.

I dont know why people find the curved screens difficult to use. Ive never had that problem. Mine (s8) is smashed to **** though. and chunks of the screen no longer work. So there's that....

Yeah i should get it replaced.

Personally I don't find them difficult to use I just don't like them, don't bring any benefits personally to my usage while having some minor negatives. I'm fine if they exist for people who want them but personally I find them too style over substance.

I was talking about people like the OP who do find them difficult to use. I can understand it when talking about older phones like the note edge where the radius was much larger, but not the current crop of phones. I dont find the edges make any difference in use.The biggest problem i find with curved edge screens is the lack of decent cases available for them. All the minimal style cases for the s8 are rubbish. Every one of them.

Whilst I like my Mate 20 pro it's the last time I'll be buying a phone with a curved screen.
Adds nothing and introduces annoying reflections. An unnecessary fad.

Huawei mate 20x is the phone I would be getting if funds permitted, arguably one of the best phones out imo.

Lower down the ladder we have the recently released Honor View 20, getting pretty rave reviews, and the OnePlus 6, good allrounder.

Then cheaper the 'price to performance kings' we have the Honor Play and Honor 8x.

I also loath curved screens, I just don't see what benefit they offer other than an aesthetic to differentiate yourself in the market, typing on them is a pain, and watching a video on them just distorts the top and bottom of the imagine, same for photos which is annoying when editing them, and then on top that they are more susceptible to breaking.

Also current underscreen finger print sensors are just a poor stepping stone until manufactures start implementing ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensors this year.

I see little advantage, and so any reduction in functionality is a cost not worth paying IMO. For me, it's the reduced sensitivity of the curved parts of the screen - especially when combined with what I think is an intentional effort by website advertisers to take advantage by placing the close "X" where it will be awkward to utilise...

I've got a P20 Pro as a personal phone and a Note 8 for work (job issued)

The Note is a nightmare. The screen protector lasts about a week before its damaged or cracked, doesn't stick on properly and the sensitivity (or lack of) in various hot spots is dire. The case can't protrude above screen level and its all down to the curved edges.

I would never own a curved screen phone personally and can totally see why you'd want to to avoid it.

Before settling on the P20 Pro I considered the Pixel variants and Oneplus. I ruled out Oneplus because they don't officially support / ship to Channel Islands (therefore no warranty) and I ended up with the Huawei as it offered more of what I wanted in my budget.

What's the software like on these? Is it a pretty light skin on android or a much more involved thing? I've had a few different brands and sometimes the way they put the software together is a killer!

I have no issues with MIUI, but all things are subjective.

In fairness I had the S7 Edge and hated the curved screen, something dragged me to the Note 9 and if I'm honest I don't notice it being a curved screen nor do I accidentally click on stuff... it's a fantastic phone and would wholly recommend for you to check it out.. even if it is curved.
