well, managed to install my new 7200.10 last night running under vista.

i ran HDtach and got a burst well below 200MB/s, but after some reading around i pulled out the pin on the back to enable faster transfer and hit 230mb+ and an avg of 65mb+.

this is with other stuff running, windows backup etc all turned on, with zero optimising of my system for hd access (had downloads going at same time etc)

all seems well. the drive is super quiet and fast. i like.

What motherboard is that on? :)

hi, i have a DFI NF4 Ultra-D (the DGX - "non" sli one..). running on the nvidia raid port at the moment.

the 230MB+ was the burst speed. the 65mb+ was the Average (i did the 8mb test it was nearly 10pm and i had to get to the pub lol)

i have a WD80KS or whatever 8mb SATA1, and without ever benching it i can tell its not as fast as the new seagate.s

Thats odd, I only get a burst of 188MBs with 2 7200.10s in RAID0 on the NForce4 controller. I wonder whats going on there

did u pull the jumper on them both to allow sata2 mode? and what mobo do you have? does it actually do Sata2? i thought mine didnt but it seems it does..

Yup pulled jumpers and my board does SATA-II (NForce4 Ultra chipset).

The DFI Ultra-D does SATA-II aswell, with a burst of 230MB/s your board must be running in SATA-II.

Do the Western Digitals have SATA and SATA II jumper selections too? What do they arrive set to? I have 2500KS and three 3200KS, on a Asus CSM and Asus MVP Deluxe. Do both these boards support SATA II? How do I check SATA is enabled?

image as promised. let me know what you think

Yes the A8R32-MVP Deluxe does have SATA-II support, I just pulled the jumper out from my 7200.10 320GB and the burst speed test result has gone from 134MB/s to 246MB/S

hmm sorry to butin but can any 1 here tell me which is the fastest out of these 2 hds

Western Digital Caviar SE16 250GB 2500KS SATA-II
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250GB ST3250620AS SATA-II

in numbers the seagate looks the fastest but in realworld, as any 1 tested them to together

im thinking of buying some for both me pcs as main hds. the mobos im using are.

A8N32-SLI Deluxe
Biostar Tforce 6100-939

also are both models queit runing?

thanks for any help :)
