it's upgrade time again :D

My ati 9550 has served me well but only being able to run GR:AW on all lowest settings is not acceptable.

Budget isnt really an issue, the limitations are that my SFF only has 300w PSU and the space inside is limited.

Any suggesions for the Fastest AGP card I can run on the 300w PSU ?

Cheers.

Could you take a picture of the PSU label and post it in here? Or do you know the manufacturers site so we can take a look at the ratings for the PSU?

why not include the price of a suitable psu in your upgrade ,
would be painfull buyinfg a ne wcard and not being able to use it until you ordered and received a new psu

The PSU is an upgraded one, the one supplied with my SFF was a 150w

dont really want to change it again unless I really have to, I'll post the serial and spec this evening.

Do you think I could I get away with a 6800GT ?

If its a true 300w then you'll have no probs at all.

Even an x850 would be ok.

If its a cheapo generic PSU then it'd need replacing - not worth the risk.

I run all my rig (see sig) on a 350w fanless Antec with no probs - and thats with GFx overclocked to not far off an x850 XTPE.

If, as you say, budget isn't an issue, then I would definately go for a PSU upgrade too.

I'd go for something like a 500w seasonic at about £90, or even the 430w version for about £60. Both are very stable PSU's that are quite efficient and should get you your money back in cheaper electricity bills in a few years? (Hey, every little helps right?! ;) )

The 500w version in particular will have all of the connectors you could need and will be suitable for whatever you upgrade to going forward?

I'm sorry, those are ATX PSU's, and didn't pick up in your OP that you're running a SFF.

If you're using a shuttle, or one of the SilenX PSUs similar to that which some shuttles have, they can take some serious abuse, you could run a X850XT off a 300W one.

ok, I've taken the plunge and got a 6800 GT, only £117 from the bay of the e

I guessing there's no way it'll run off a mini atx silentx 300w ?

Next problem, can't find mini atx psu's at more than 300w anywhere ? What do others do in this situation ? I cant be the only person that wants a decent card in a SFF

What's the full spec of your computer right now? There's no point running a 6800GT on a Sempron 2000+ or similar :)
