Fastest flash drive?

The 8GT is the fastest you get, no longer made (memory shortage) and the new 16GB GT using some slower type of Samsung Memory.

Its so slow I got a refund from store as I found out before I opened it and Corsair will totally refund anyone who aint happy. (not their fault, actually Samsungs).

I've got an 8GB Buffalo which does around 17MB/s read and 9MB/s write, having done some explorer tests (single large file).

I use a 2GB Flash Voyager, using SISoftware Sandra it tells me this,

SiSoftware Sandra

flash voyager GT

The Corsair Flash Voyager GT series claims to be the fastest in the world (BOLD claim !)

Anyway the tested speeds indicate sustained reads of 30-32MB/sec, which is pretty much the max speed of a USB2.0 port anyway.

I dont know how often you use your drive, but the other factor to consider is write cycles. The GT may be fastest, but they are using the MLC flash, not SLC. MLC allows more than a single bit per cell, and as such can wear a lot quicker on a cell. SLC boats lifetime of about 1 million cycles per cell, where MLC is around 100,000.

Other fast drives are the Ironkey and the Sandisk Ducati range. Most come in 16/8/4/2 capacities.

Here is a small table that someone posted on toms forums.

Make / Model-------------------Read Speed --||||-- Write Speed

Patriot Xporter XT - 200x ------ 32MB/s ------||||--- 26MB/s

Patriot Xporter XT V2 - 266x --- 39MB/s

Patriot Xporter XT - 150x ------

Corsair Flash Survivor GT - 8GB - 34MB/s ------||||--- 28MB/s

PNY Attache - 16GB ----------

OCZ ATV Turbo --------------- 33-35MB/s ----||||--- 26-30MB/s

Lexar Jumpdrive Lightning ------ 30MB/s -------||||--- 21MB/s

Memina Rocket ---------------- 200x (30MB/s) ||||--- 160x (24MB/s)

Only the Corsair 8GT claims and is the fastest if you want to be accurate.

That type of memory is no longer avail from Samsung so if you have one your lucky.

I have the Survivor 8gig (not the GT), and I've had the Voyager 8 gig GT. Honestly haven't seen a difference in performance, couldn't quote you the specs but I can tell you that the example of the Voyager GT i had was utterly pathetic in terms of survivability. Kept it in my pocket or in my college rucksack and used it most days for 2 months, after which the rubber shell was falling apart (the loop at the end split within a few weeks of use) and eventually the whole unit just died.

Get the survivor. The benefit is in the name. Had it for a year now and despite numerous occasions of misuse (notably swinging it on the end of my i33 ribbon :cool: and bashing it around ) its still perfectly usable and very fast.

Thanks for that.

I had the Patriot Xporter and Lexar Lightning in mind, especially since the 8Gb Corsair GT is no more.

Peak Xtreme II 1,2 &4gb (you can get 8 and 16gb too, maybe 32 also but havent looked.)sticks are fairly quick and bloody cheap if you can find them.
average test benchs are around the 30mb/s with write only a little behind that.

Gone for the 8Gb Peak Extreme and 4Gb Xporter USB drives. :)

I tested disgo pros (dual channel and was very quick when it originally came out) Sony, Peak Xtremes (the 1gb original was bloody quick too) kingston travellers and a few others sent out by the reps, we go through around 1000-1500 a year and speed is of the essence as they are used for log backups on sql machines. The peaks have been ordered in batches of 500 direct from Taiwan after getting in touch with their uk dist and ordered them without their retail plastic covers and straps as we didnt need them, and I have to say the metal casing is very nice and solid, perhaps a line OCUK could maybe try out.

There does not seem much difference in average speed between the 8Gb Peak Extreme II and the 4Gb Xporter Patriot - although the latter is a pretty good deal at £10.99 (inc delivery). The Patriot was marginally faster.

I tried them out with FAT 32, NTFS and FAT16 and that, for me, was the order of their speeds.
