Hi, anyone know what the fastest hard drive is for around £80
looking to upgrade the old crappy hard drive in my gaming pc

thanks

It would be a good idea to delete that link to a competitor's site. OcUK don't like anyone posting links to competitors in OcUK forums.

in my experience yes this is very good, had it 6 months running solid and not a glitch so far. runs a lot faster than my raptor i had.

I though the WD's are more reliable too.

But after purchasing 4 x 1.5TB WD to replace 4 x Samsung 1.5TB, i found out that samsung not only runs cooler, also performs faster. And samsung runs on three platters, while WD runs on four platters with a disabled one. So even on the mechanical side, samsung looks more reliable.

what does the raid on that harddrive mean? that its like 2 hdds in 1? raid without the 2 hdd or something?

Id like to know this too. Its either like you say, 2 drives built into one, or its just marketing rubbish

In the past ive always gone WD because of the customer support. Ive also got one samsung drive though and its never had any problems

I want to say that the hard drive with RAID my have a chip/processor in it to create a RAID array between the platters... but I'll have to look that up because that's just a guess.

No, it means that it is designed for use in RAID arrays. The drive is manufactured under tighter tolerances making it more reliable, and people tend to use it in Enterprise Servers with RAID configurations.

Performance wise there is no difference what so ever... the additional cost is due to the tigher tolerances :)
