Fat shaming on a plane - who is in the wrong?

What is broadcasting then mate?

If someone's reading a book next to you on a plane, you can barely avoid noticing what they're reading. Or if they're playing Cow Clicker+++ then you will spot that too. Why on earth would anyone think that they can send texts sat next to someone without them seeing what you're writing? Would you do it at work and assume you can **** your boss off when he's next to you?

No thats just being nosy.

Would you assume you could sit there reading your bosses emails just because he is sat next to you?

She can see his ******* phone screen, since she's sat right next to him as he's typing. How is that not broadcasting it in the same way as talking on the phone?

Because she should keep her eyes off other peoples screens, How would you feel if I sat there staring at your screen?

Cheesyboy are you the sort of guy that reads another person's newspaper when you are sat next to them on the train? ;)

I think there's a difference between staring at someone's screen and just glancing at it. And seeing "Damn, sat next to a proper fat **** on the plane!!!1111" is not going to take much glancing to recognise the subject matter.

;)

I think most people would spot what newspaper is being read, and would take in some of the headlines

Reading a book or paper over someone's shoulder is imo rude, but it's not an invasion of privacy.

Yea I'm guilty of reading the back of people's newspapers when sat opposite. But it's leagues apart from reading someone's text messages over their shoulder.

If she didn't like what she saw, she could have just stopped reading it.

It's a complete stranger you will never see again, does it really matter that much to you that he thinks you are fat and she is fat, so he isn't wrong either.

She made this into much more of an issue than it ever needed to be.

If he was clearly deliberately fat shaming her to her face, that is not on. But privately messaging a friend is not that. She went out of her way to read it photo it and then take offence to it, much less effort to ignore it.

This forum is full of fat *****, but as soon as it's someone else they get relentless abuse. I'm disgusted by this thread.

Indeed, she is clearly in the wrong in this instance but some of the attitudes of people here is disgusting. I wonder if these same people are perfect in their own lives, don't smoke, binge drink, play dangerous sports, drive too fast. I very much doubt it :)

At the end of the day, she tried to take photos of his screen (which you can see on her Instagram) and then deliberately recorded the conversation and him apologising (which I'm sure she did not inform him he was being recorded).

She just wanted to stir up a storm on social media for attention.... that's why a lot of posters on here are making mean comments. I have no sympathy when it's some Instagram moron looking to just create drama.

What's playing sport or driving fast got to do with any of this?!

IKR. Dangerous sports and fast driving is good exercise :D

Do people even know how knackering ragging a car around a track is? Last time I did Go-karting I could barely walk after 45 minutes of it :p

And that in exactly the point.

No one is saying that it isnt a *** move to slander someone because of their weight.....but......he had no intention to hurt her or 'shame' her. It was a private chat, something we have all done before, something that many of us still do to this day. As far as he was concerned she was never supposed to know what his views of banter was.

No one is saying that just because she is overweight its ok to challenge her on it, he didnt do this, and if he did it would certainly not be cool.

This thread would have gone very differently if the lady had sat down and the guy turned around to her and said. You are a fat piece of **** and I dont like the potential of you invading my space.

The only 'broadcasting' done here was by her, when she tried to shame him.

Ahh apologies, I can see how my comment wasn't very relevant to the thread but it was aimed at the attitudes of people here towards fat people. As an example (which I should have pointed out) some people here are of the belief that fat people shouldn't be covered for free healthcare as they are a burden for example. My point was that how is that any more different to people who carry out those activities. I find it disgusting that some of you guys can have the attitude similar to that of "fat people disgust me" when I can pretty much guarantee they themselves aren't perfect in some other way.

For the record, I agree with the anti fat brigade on relevance to the OP's topic. But still think some of your attitudes suck :D
