Fault after battery replacement at Genius Bar

Hopefully the final post in this saga, my insurance company have agreed for it to be fixed at Apple including replacing all the third party parts their preferred repairer put on it!

Going in to the Apple store on Friday to see what the best they can do for me in the way for repair/replace. I could really do without being without my phone for a long period while it's being repaired!

Wouldn't be surprised if they just offer you a refurbished phone and do a straight swap.

I have an iPhone 11 out of warranty and battery needs replacing

are apple covering this or is it a paid repair ?

Why would they cover it unless it’s a known issue? It’s £69 as per the apple site for an out of warranty repair, you can get cheaper non OEM batteries fitted or do it yourself, but as the previous posts prove, it’s often a false economy as the supposed OEM quality parts are often poor quality. This should change if/when apple opens up its parts availability, till then I would just Genius Bar it.

I have an 8 Plus. I've had the screen replaced twice (clumsy) and the battery with non OEM parts. However, there are non OEM parts and non OEM parts...

Some non OEM parts are genuinely exactly the same as apple parts. Same factories, same bins etc, etc. So you have to trust the repairer as to which parts they use. They all know what they're doing, some are unscrupulous. Others are not.

The big difference is with screens (that I know of, there's probably more parts that like this too). Certified Apple repairers have a gizmo that matches the serial number and tells the phone it's "genuine" part. It doesn't actually have to be a genuine part, but in order to have the gizmo and use it legitimately, the repairer pays apple a fee.

You can tell a non "genuine" screen that hasn't had the serial matched with the gizmo. True Tone doesn't work. It doesn't even appear as an option in settings.
