Faulty 7970?

Just an update on the situation. Looks like the Corsair 450 watt psu has been working a treat this weekend.

We'll wait to hear the latest from Slugwash.

Not being rude or anything, but did you actually read the thread, or decide to just come up with some waffle for the hell of it? On another off topic point, do you think you could come across any more condescending in your posts? or do you get some sort of buzz when people take an instant dislike to you?

Yeah I did read the thread hence my suggestions it could be something else.

Just because you had problems with the context of my post it doesn't mean every one else did. How you choose to view the world isn't really my concern because you have never met me.

Nice of you to judge me though. I do appreciate you speaking for others based on your opinion of me too. Very handy that.

It's hard to judge you in any other light when you constantly come over as this humongous 'know it all'...

Listen Andy, I'm sure you're a nice enough bloke, and I know you were probably only trying to help, but perhaps if you toned the patronising comments down a bit you might not get under peoples skin quite as much :)

Well said

Hey guys - just come across this in the (not supplied) Antec HCP 750W manual:

+12 VOLT RAIL DISTRIBUTION
The HCP-750 uses four separate +12 volt power rails. Different connectors are hooked up to separate circuits to aid in the balanced distribution of power between devices in your computer. The +12V rails have been assigned to different connectors, as shown in Table 2, to prevent voltage sags in one device due to sudden demands for power by another device.

and this on TechPowerUp forum:

You can connect any modular cable on the red connectors of the modular panel. This gives you the freedom to arrange connectors freely throughout the +12V rails. However you should not mix the EPS connectors along with the PCIe ones. If you use four PCIe and you also want to use the second modular EPS then you should connect it to the 12V4 rail.

I have not yet returned the unit - so tonight will wire up again with a "balanced" spread of rails, just in case it was the way I chose to wire it (can't be sure now exactly) that caused a "voltage sags in one device" as mentioned above.

All comments on "balancing rails on power supplies" welcome . . . CHEERS!
(... or should this be a new thread???)

Wired the Antec HCP 750W back in again - started first time. Will give it a good thrashing over the next few days - If it works from now on, I can only surmise that however I rigged it the first time, did not suit you sir!

However, it is out of the box, on its side on the bench -so should not count my chickens, eh?

Is it possible, that even though all the power cabling is brand new, when it's loomed in tight, there is some stressing that might be the cause (clutching at straws, I know)?

My comments and discussion is how you read it. Or rather, read into it.

And it seems I get under your skin for some reason, hence why you seem to read my posts in the wrong light or context.

I can't help that can I ?

Going back to the know it all part. Who else suggested it could be anything else? We had about ten certain it was the power supply yet no one mentioned it could be anything else ?

Not that I should explain my motives or reasons of course, but I had a friend of mine do just that about a year back. Three months his PC continually reset and switch off and so on before he realised what the problem was. Bent pins.

And I know it wasn't him who bent them because I watched him unpack the board and install the CPU via HD camera over Skype.
