I bought a BFG GeForce GTX 280 OC 1024MB graphics card from OcUK in December 2008 and its now gone faulty. The card has a lifetime warranty on it from BFG, so I've tried to get in touch with this only to find they have gone into liquidation. Has anyone else picked up the Warranty of the products or will OcUK honor the warranty direct?

Or does any know of another company that has bought BFG that will honor the warranty or am I just screwed!

Yep, I was in the same boat as you - my 280 eventually pink-screened but BFG was not around to honour their 10-year agreement :(

Sold it for spares on a popular auction site for approx. £35.

Just found the below on anothe thread which may possibly have been your earlier response. Oh well £350 down the drain!!!!

"You're completely out of luck I'm afraid. My BFG 8800GTS died last year, and unfortunately it was just around the time that BFG were winding down their business... hence they were no longer accepting any RMAs, and that lifetime warranty of theirs became completely worthless. I ended up selling the card as faulty/spares or repairs for about £20 on a certain auction site."

Really is a shame, I thought BFG were the best out of all of 'em.

You say that but I've had 3 BFG cards over the years, a 6800GT, 8800GTX and now the 280GTX OC. Out of that lot the 6800GT and the 280GTX have failed. Only my 8800 is going strong. 66% failure rate is not good in my book. Looks like I'm going to have to upgrade and find another few quid.

Would the below be any good as a replacement?

OcUK GeForce GTX 560 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

I think that card is essentially a 460 with faster clock speeds, although someone correct me if I'm wrong. Not sure how it would measure up. Would be an improvement, but by how much, I really couldn't say.

not that much, you can replace the card for a better one (i expect) for under £175.

so its £ 150 - £170 down the drain......

and a good excuse to upgrade you very old card !!!

when he says "stuff it in the oven" its not quite that simple....

the heat must be perfect, you need to be careful what you put it on, how its placed, and how long you leave it..

So what does baking it do to the card? Does it fix issues or something? The only time I've heard anyone mention they are "Baking it" is when I've watched Jim Royale on the Royale Family :D

BTW, looking at replacement cards, there are some now with 3Gb DDR5 mem, what the hell is going to use all that? Is this just not marketing hype?

If your going to get a replacement, a 560 TI would be a good upgrade without putting you in debt. The 560 is a good card but for the extra money the 560 TI is worth it.

the 3gb cards will be mainly used for multi monitor setups. IV seen people posting screenshots of GTA IV running 3 monitors and using up 2.3gb of graphics memory. But if your not planning on that, 1.2gb is enough to play every game on 1920x1080 including playing in 3d if you so desired.
