Faulty PSU?

Left it plugged in for half hour and it seems to be working okay :D

Fan isn't as quiet as I would have liked it to be, getting about 42db in my room from it. Might help when I change my case though.
 
Good to see it's working :) Your case might have poor airflow if it's getting that loud. It should be running at the low 30's db wise. Which way up have you mounted the psu ? It might run cooler with the fan pointed down so it is bringing cooler air into the psu. If your case is getting hot then the psu will be working harder.
 
The fan pulls air from under the case and out the back.. I think it's transferring vibrations into the case..

Passing overclockers tomorrow so thinking about just picking up a Carbide 540 case anyway... Was going to pick up some of these fans also http://www.overclockers.co.uk/searc...oiseblocker+NB-eLoop+Fan+B12-&_=1392927417479

I was looking at getting the B12-3 versions... Surely If I run them at 800rpm they will be as quiet as the B12-1 version?
 
Those noiseblockers use an unusual mounting method so you might want to double check they'll work with the carbide 540. Corsair often have rubber washes built into their fan screw holes which might make the noiseblocker's screws too short

Also I've heard they're not the best noise level wise. Good cooling but that's about it, also can make a buzzing noise when used as intake. Check out silentpcreviews website, they have a lot of fan noise comparisons such as this one http://www.silentpcreview.com/article1342-page9.html

I've heard they can be fairly loud though, even at 7V?

I wouldn't really need a 7V cable.. My motherboard controls fan speeds automatically (even 3 pins). You run a tuning setup, then it slows and speeds them up depending on temps. Usually my system fans are off or running at 600rpm

Check the link I posted above, you can hear the corsair af/sp in comparison to others. In my opinion they sound terrible.
 
Seems a pretty hard task finding a fan that isn't "terrible".. One person says the Corsair AF quiet editions are dead silent, the next comment says they are noisy as hell lol

Noise is subjective but there are definitely better sounding fans out there than the corsair AF. Some people will consider 1,500rpm dead silent when its obviously not :p

I'm very picky with noise, tried a load of fans and be quiet silent wings 2 are the best imo although very expensive in the UK

Never pay attention to a manufacturers db rating as they all test it differently. Any fan at 800rpm will be pretty quiet, I wouldn't choose them personally though. They're mainly for use on radiators and make an annoying sound if used in 'pull' rather than push. Not sure if they'd do the same when used as a case intake.

 
That youtube video is the Noiseblocker b12-4 fan which is 2400 rpm...of course it is going to be loud :)

If you go for something like the b12-2 which is rated at 1300 rpm then it is going to be a lot quieter.




Actually that is probably not the best video, as there is a lot of background noise

Here is a better one of the 120mm b12-ps PWM fan which is rated at 21db (1500 rpm) It should give you a better idea on how the b12-2 will perform

Just watched the video.. no way that represents the true noise of it. I had to increase my volume and it still sounds too quiet. Can't really trust videos as volumes vary way too much.

I meant compared to the video you posted. The difference is night and day :p I know that when mounted in the case they will be slightly noisier due to the intake grille.
