Earlier today (Merry Xmas!) I was watching a youtube video when my pc locked up. The cursor would move but I
couldn't do anything. If I hit reset, the pc would appear to hang on POST. I was puzzled and it would come and
go. As in, I couldn't replicate the error. I checked the event viewer and everything I could but I could not find
the problem.
The only temp solution was to power off the PC and power on. Then I could boot into windows.
The nest time it done it, I hit reset and it hung on POST again. But this time I waited longer and it told me it
couldn't find Windows. I've seen this before, where I have had an external HD connected and my PC tried to boot
off that.
I went into the BIOS to change the boot settings to boot from my 256gb SSD and it was there I narrowed down the
problem. The SSD was missing from the BIOS. Every other HD was showing (all 5 of them) but not the SSD. I powered
off the PC, powered on and went into the BIOS again. It was there.
So it would appear that without reason, at random, my SSD just "disconnects". As if someone has pulled out the
SATA or power cable.
Has anyone heard of this issue? Am I right to assume its the SSD?
Basic specs are:
------------------
System Information
------------------
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600K CPU @ 3.40GHz (8 CPUs), ~3.4GHz
Memory: 16384MB RAM
Motherboard: ASUSTeK Computer INC. P8Z68-V LX (LGA1155)
---------------
Display Devices
---------------
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580
-------------
Sound Devices
-------------
Creative SB X-Fi Fatality Professional Series
SSD in question is this one
Because the issue is so random, I had to type this post in notepad first and keep saving, incase it did it again!
I can access all the files and folders on the drive fine and it's just as fast as it's always been. But this really puzzles and annoys me.
