Favourite intro

Cool thread! Im going to check out the ones I havent seen when I get home.

To date the intro that has blown me away the most has been Mechwarrior 2. Special Mentions to Baldurs Gate 2, and Warcraft 3:RoC as well.

Independence War / I-War. 15 minutes of CGI goodness that was amazing back in 1997 and mostly still holds up today.

The aspect ratio is off for the youtube vids though - it was rendered in 2:35 aspect ratio, not 16:9.

I have to say Bioshock, from the start until you enter the pod to rapture.

The speech by Andrew Ryan with Splicers just begging for your blood is just epic.

Dawn of war does have impressive intro's that for sure

However it's not just eye candy that makes for impressiveness!

Kilrathi worlds are attacked by an enemy whose coming was foretold in ancient Kilrathi prophecies.

you sir are spot on with that one, I-War was one of the best games ever I think, sooooo ahead of its time, such a shame it hasn't been remade or continued. :(

I'm just as disappointed because I worked on the game!

You can buy both the Deluxe Edition and the sequel on GOG though, fixed up to run on modern machines, so I'm happy that it's back on sale and gamers can play and enjoy it again.

yeah its one of my biggest gaming disappointments, how it has never IMO been truly realised, i think it was too ahead of its time! thing is though it still brings me many many fond memories, more than most other games and it was released yeeeeears ago! who was the developer? particle systems or something?

Yep, Particle Systems, who were then bought out by Argonaut, but they went bankrupt a couple of years later taking the former Particle Systems with them.
