Favourite singleplayer levels of all time?

I agree with most of the above. Just going to stick my neck out and say Hard rain from l4d2...

Got to admit fantastic section of the game.

I still love the start of half life when you are in the train and it goes through all of the diff departments of black mesa. Cant wait for black mesa source :D

Just played through COD4 again today, so it's got to be the 'all ghillied up' level :D

Also the Omaha Beach level On MOH is worthy of a mention, was a great game at the time :)

American Mcgee's Alice - Mirror image.

That game had some of the best levels I've ever played - including one where you had to move through a chess environment where the enemies could only move on the chequered ground in the ways they would as chess pieces (they were designed like different chess pieces).

MOHAA - can't remember the map name but it was a ruined town somewhere in France iirc. German snipers, raining hard, spookily quiet, I've got to get from one side of the town to the other and all I have is my trusty sniper rifle.

I just remember sneaking around trying to figure out where to go, getting shot in the leg without even hearing or seeing the enemy....trying to figure out where he is, moving from cover to cover, looking through your scopes, scanning windows, ledges and the like until you suddenly spot him on a roof top slightly obscured by a tree...slowly take aim and headshot...one less German sniper.

Brilliant fun, actually made my heart rate elevate while playing, no other game has ever done that to me. :)

Thats my choice, absolutely superb level. Spent literally days upon days doing that level on hard. Had to know every single sniper position or you just got owned lol. The springfield sniper on that game was the first proper 1 shot 1 kill weapon in a PC game that actually felt like it had abit of power behind it. Amazingly satisfying level and weaponry!

Yup RTCW, pretty much all of it
also an add on called "Timegate" was fantastic

And Minerva Metastasis addon for HL2

Shame new games are made to easy and boring !

RTCW with HL2/Crysis physics would be something special

Not a single mention of AvP2? Some great moments in that one -

Entering the nest for the first time, everything's quiet until you see your strung up team mate ahead, their head torch still on. Then as you approach, in classic alien film style, the chest burster emerges just as you arrive, and when you kill it, all hell breaks loose - hisses, that creepy alien scream, your motion sensor going wild and your commander screaming at you to get the hell out, all over that excellent pulse rifle sound as you try to keep the aliens off your heels as you try to get out. Stunning stuff.

The alien level where you're trying to find someone to infect as a facehugger was also one of the most original I've ever played in a game.

All Giilied Up -COD4
Surface Tension - Half Life
Nova Prospekt - Half Life 2
FEAR - Every Level was awesome

MGS4 - fighting Raging Raven in the tower and the Octopus B*tch in the house.
Ravenholm - HL2
All Ghillied up - COD4MW
Omaha Beach - MOHAA
Tomb Raider - lost world level where you first come across the T-REX
DOOM 3 - Hell level - freaked me out

The first demo of Left4Dead, where your jaw drops at the sheer number of zombies on screen, the AI helping you off the ground and the first time you hear The Witch!!!! Creepy!

Operation Flashpoint - The first combat mission, where you have to drive a jeep to a camp, get in back of truck with rest of platoon and engage enemy whilst on routine patrol....and realise that you are not bullet-proof!!

I've gotta say that, controversially, I like the last level of Crysis a lot. It may not be a great level in terms of gameplay, but it feels absolutely epic!
