Favourite Star Wars movie?

Rogue One for me the only film which is (almost) on par with the originals. I really enjoyed, none of the recent releases are close.

Over the years, completely lost hope/faith in the new films. Now all I see is this nonsense about Baby Yoda / Chamellions etc. Makes me sad.

Now I just block out any memories of Phantom Menace, Clone or whatnot (like Rocky Films after IV). :D

The one thing the prequels managed was to come up with original designs and how things evolved over time ,how big the universe is etc, if they managed to get rid of the bloody romance and the explanation for how the force works they would be perfect.

The originals are great and TFA gave hope but them last two ....watched them once, never again.

Favourite I think has to be the revenge of the sith...minus the Vader end scene and padame dying of a broken heart.. brilliant.

That was always Lucas'es fall down, he has a great eye for VFX and can write a great story, but when it comes to the script and less technical stuff like human interaction and acting, he's been extremely weak. This wasn't a problem in the OT because, as a new director, he had a lot of help and yet even he eventually decided it would be best to let others do the direction whilst he produced instead. Sadly with the Prequels Lucas had become such a force that no-one felt able to tell him "no", not the actors, not the staff and not the producers. So we were left with a very exciting visual feast marred but slow shambling dialogue, wooden acting (his choice, not the actors*) and laden with the same "walk through a CGI corridor spouting exposition" repeated endlessly.

I still like them but I really think Lucas should have picked a director he liked to implement his vision with Lucas at their side rather than doing it all himself.

* Actors - One anecdote is that Lucas liked to do just one take, and if an actor said "do you want to go again, I think I can do it better" Lucas would say "No, you didn't make a mistake so I'm happy" i.e very "technical" minded (I need X to speak to Y, OK filmed it, next scene etc).

Indeed the main characters let it down massively, however the scope of it all just pulled it out of the gutter for me,it felt like star wars still.

Loved obi one fighting anakin at the end.

The new ones, whilst the acting isn't too bad fell down by re hashing everything they could , nothing clicked, forcing current issues into the frame to win pc points ,then you have Akbar going but they kept Leia despite the actor having passed away(baffling)

Oh and why didn't they jump to hyperspace to kill the death stars ...mind blown.

The horrors.

To be fair it was for originally a planned reason.

Force awakens - hans film
Last jedi - lukes film
Rise skywalker - leias film

Each of the original 3 got to have a film in the sequels. To be honest I think this was a poor idea but it was their plan none the less which is why they kept leia alive at the end of the last jedi.

Never knew that, still you would have thought they would change considering the circumstances.

That and changing directors.

RotS. I love this film and think it's very underrated. I think the whole Order 66 sequence is very impactful and Star wars Theory does an excellent piece that highlights how could HC's acting is in the film.
Rogue One is good but flawed. I love the explanation of the Death Star flaw, the battle of Scarif and Vader but the rest and especially the characters are weak at best. Saw's death is just pointless. There is literally no reason he couldn't escape and it makes of mockery of his character as seen in Clone Wars.
I like some elements of 1, 2 & 7 but think Solo is weak. 7 is mainly just a huge waste and I loathe the way they invalidated the victory of the Rebels and took Han back so far that they undid ALL his character development.
8 & 9 are just total dross and can be safely ignored. All I could think whilst watching them both was Han's comment in Ep. 7, "That's not how the force works!" I'm hoping that the rumours about using the Veil of the Force to turn 7-9 into Legends so they can restart things "properly" are true.

Even if they do, with Fisher dead, Ford and Hamill "disillusioned" and the fanbase so heavily split, I'm not sure it's going to work.

I genuinely think the OT fanbase is now so jaded by the Disney stuff that it might be best if Disney drew a line in the sand and concentrated on a completely new stand-alone series (maybe call all the new stuff "Legends" or similar instead) based on Star Was Lore/Canon but not using any Ep1-9 characters/storylines, as a method of having a distinct separation between the Ep1-9 series and anything new going forward, with no "throw-backs" to the "old stuff", so no cameos, no cheeky "hey do you remember when..." stuff, just creating a "new" Star Wars for a new set of fans going forward.

The Mandalorian is a good example of what can be done by ditching the Ep1-9 story/characters but keeping the Star Wars lore/canon alive and starting fresh, and that seems to have gone down well with new and old fans so far.

I tend to agree, Ianh. I don't think they need to rely on cameos and nostalgia, the universe is big enough to move onwards. The first priority should be to get some writers who (i) know something about Star Wars, (ii) care about Star Wars and (iii) can actually write ... something other than agenda-driven pseudo-politics.
TBF, that'd be the only situation where I'd consider going back to the cinema to watch anything Star Wars related now.

Come to think of it, you could pretty much copy & paste that for Star Trek and Dr Who too.

i doubt that - if one thing is clear from the sequels its that they seemingly had no plan at all.

Kennedy has said as much in various interviews, that she doesn't subscribe to the idea of writing an arch for a trilogy and movies should be written as they go.

Sounds like the perfect person to produce the most anticipated Trilogy in a generation, what could possibly go wrong :D
