Hi All,

I was just wondering if anyone has the same issue as me?...

I have a weird issue with FEAR2. when running around normally it seems as if the framerate is stuck at 30 or so. However, when i zoom in on whichever weapon I have (left shift), it instantly goes stright up to 60. Any ideas why this is?

I've tried with vysnc on and off, no difference.

My PC Specs are:

Intel i7 920
6GB DDR3
ATi 4870x2
Windows Vista x64

Thanks,

David

I had a similar issue with the demo, turning off motion blur solved the problem for me (and boosted the framerate all the time, instead of just when zoomed). That's with 2x ATI 3870 X2's in crossfire and 9.1 cat.

Mine's at 60fps and then drops to 30 in random places for no discernable reason.
Pretty much the same for me. You can tell the engine and the code has been very well programmed and optimized, but there's still a few things in there somewhere which could do with fixing.

You have to have Cat. AI off if using Xfire, as it has issues.
This.

From the Readme that comes with the game:

*Running the game using Crossfire (AMD’s solution for using two video cards at once) can result in significant graphical corruption. Disabling Catalyst AI in the Catalyst Control Center should clear up this corruption. We are currently communicating with AMD regarding this issue.
*If this error is seen when running the game - Error copying file gameclient.dll - please close Steam, relaunch Steam, and relaunch the game.
*Running the game using Crossfire (AMD’s solution for using two video cards at once) shows little to no performance improvement over using one AMD video card. We are currently communicating with AMD regarding this issue.

Stuck my 4870X2 in and played for a bit. It's a little stuttery, but the frame rate seems consistent at 60.

Haven't played the full game yet but that sounds like a game running with v-sync that is just managing 60fps but when it can't quite manage 60, has to wait for the next frame, effectively halfing the frame rate.

the first fear ran "stupendously well" as someone wrote when the 280 and, I think, the X2 was compared. So I would have thought that, again, the frame rates should be pretty consistent for ATI cards. If it was wasn't for the auto save then it would be as smooth as the first.
In fact I can remember playing the first fear (like we do with all our titles when we buy a new card), I had just got my 512mb 4870 and it ran beautifully, I stuck my 8800gtx in and although it ran well, it just wasn't the same.

edit : got fraps running, around 30 fps with v-sync on, cat a.i. is set to standard, will try turning it off completely now. Turned v-sync off and noticed no difference. Though you do see an improvement with at least setting cat a.i. to standard.

I know what you mean. I turn my mouse to look left and the fps is 30 ish, turn to the right and its 60. Turn back and then down to 30 again. This pattern is constant. However, even with 'worst' settings - cat a.i. set to advanced and v-sync on with around 30fps the gaming experience is still imho very good. Turning off motion blur helped, I don't like it anyway.

Turn off V-sync.

If it is on and the framerate drops below 60fps it is halved to 30fps unless you have triple buffering on or disable V-sync
