Good afternoon folks,

I've had iphones since the iPhone 3g and always upgraded to the next iPhone, 3g,3gs,4 and I am getting fed up with it to be honest, the phone only does what I want when it's jailbroken and it's a constant struggle against apple to do what I want to do with my phone,

So, which phone do you think I should go for?

It can't be a HTC, I had a HTC phone back before the iPhone, the Touch HD based on recommendations from here and it was a decent phone but the touch screen went goofy after a couple of months and HTC said it was due to misuse (it wasn't) and wouldn't repair it, I said I would never buy any of their products again and I am sticking to it,

I have played around with a couple of Samsung phones before and they always felt cheap and tacky, is this still the case? the Galaxy s2 looks nice, is it any good?

Also the Xperia play looks like it could be decent, is the playstation controller bit just a gimmicky add-on that rarely gets used though?

I don't know what I want really, but I know I don't want a blackberry

Has anyone else jumped boat recently? what do you miss from IOS and what does android or other alternatives do better?

Thanks

If you really don't want HTC, then the best 2 non-iOS choices are likely the SGS2 or the Xperia Arc (S).....the Xperia Play is nice too, but perhaps not as good a phone/complete package as t'other 2

It's not logical to dismiss HTC on the basis of your bad experience, they are good phones from a good company.

If you want the smooth as butter experience like you get with IOS it would have to be the SGSII or a WP7 device.

The Samsung Galaxy S II is the best iPhone alternative.

However, the new Nexus Prime is being launched on October 11th, wait for that.

Shouldnt dismiss a Blackberry tbh...have a look at the 9900, its the best BB out at the moment and is an absolute joy to use. Although it depends on if you want a huge touchscreen and if your an app whore so to speak...if thats the case then have a look at the 100's of Android handsets out there...

9900 or SGSII

Give it till after October 11th to decide, the Nexus prime should be announced then and you can compare it to the other phones on the market atm.

TBH I wouldn't buy an iPhone unless it could be jailbroken, it's not to get free ringtones for songs I already own, why should I pay again just to hear a shortened version.

Hence why I sit on 4.1 until 5.0 gets jailbreaken

You can make and add your own ringtones for free without the need to jailbreak anything, you know that right? :p

For free? how? I thought you had to jailbreak it in order to get access to the ringtones folder on /root part of the iphone. I know there are some free ringtone maker apps that probably don't require jailbreaking but they also don't allow icon customisation either

Don't forget to have a look at wp7. Most of the benefits from iOS and android, with limited downsides.

I just wish we had a firm release date for the nokia ace.

Yeah, ringtones are fine on iOS, not sure what that's about. HTC Touch HD was easily one of their top 3 worst devices they ever made, it was honestly terrible. They learned a lot from that era and turned it around gradually (along with a shift in designers, OS and slogan of course) and today stand proud as a pretty good vendor.

That said in the high end it's all about the new Nexus, SGS2 or BB9900. Give it a week and all will be revealed :)
