Empress 1908 Gin

I've never heard of that one. A quick google leaves me intrigued.

I had a very enjoyable afternoon yesterday watching the cricket with a few beers. It wasn't Friday and I can't remember what they were but it was a good afternoon.



The batsman went for it in the final over and got 6,6,6,6,2,6

I've not tried many gins and only recently discovered that I like it.

I've just got home after being in the office all day, having left home at 04:20 this morning and am on my second of these.

It has a very unusual flavour, unlike any gin I've had before. It's floral and surprisingly sweet. I think it's quite citrussy but really, I'm struggling to find words to describe it. It won't be to everybody's taste but I rather like it. This was a Father's Day present and when it's gone, I won't think twice about replacing it.

Do you always use the same tonic? As i imagine this can effect the flavour from the gin considerably.

Yes. Bog standard Fever Tree Indian Tonic. I don't like using fancy tonic as I want to taste the gin rather than the tonic. There are lots of different flavour tonics but I stick with the straightforward Indian tonic water.

My final beer of the evening is Hophead light and hoppy. A 500ml bottle so biggest than normal it has a very vanilla aroma to it. Not bad not great!

What percentage is that? It looks like a solid session beer to me.

That reminds me. I've still got a sealed bottle of Brennivin in the freezer that @Matblack got for me, many years ago.

I've had a BBQ this evening and necked six (yes, six) double G&Ts while cooking. Damnit, it's a school night. I'm going to suffer in the morning.

I have a friend who raves about Silent pool, what your verdict?

It’s ok but nothing special. I think it’s overpriced and overrated because there are far better gins at that price point.

I can’t be ***** to Google when they came out, but buying a pint with a pound sounds like a million years ago.

I remember it well, it was 1988.
