Feek's macOS useful tools, utilities and applications thread

Found Sound Source which seems to be a pretty decent EQ app along with loads of other features I probably won't use.

Be really interested to hear how you get on with that. Rogue Amoeba do a lot of audio stuff.

I didn’t know it had been sold. I updated to v5 on my Studio but stick with v4 on my MBA because I thought the automatic hiding and slowing thing based on conditions was totally messed up on v5.

I haven’t followed the release notes to see if it’s been resolved yet.

I completely disagree regarding the trackpad. I haven’t had a mouse connected to any Mac I’ve owned since the first trackpad was released. They’re superb, precision is great, gestures work really well.

And I also love the keyboard.

At least we agree on the mouse ;)

In over 15 years of Mac ownership, I’ve never found an archive file of any kind that the built in Archive Utility couldn’t open.

Finder preferences, General, Open folders in tabs instead
I still need to get an app that applies folder behaviour across the OS and an app that doesn't create a new folder or tab when you open a folder.
What am I missing?

you're missing the fact that it doesn't behave like any other OS out there, finding that setting isn't intuitive and if it gave me a welcome screen and asked me what behaviour I wanted, it wouldn't be an issue.

I'm not saying that the option doesn't exist, it's an OS, I'm sure it's capable of doing anything Apple want it to do, I'm saying that it's unintuitive and hard to use coming from a Windows/Linux environment.

I'm sure you know all the OSX tricks and settings. I don't. I've never used OSX before and when I looked for that setting, I couldn't find it in any of the normal places you'd expect that setting to be in the menu options.
I don't remember changing any setting to make it do this, it's just how it's always been. I'm not trying to be awkward or superior, it's just how it's always worked for me. If I could say why I get this behaviour and why you don't, I'd be more than happy to share but I really have no idea.
