Went to the ATM outside a local Tescos this morning and there was £40 still sitting in the slot, had a quick look around couldn't spot anyone obvious who's it might of been so shoved it in my pocket.

Now I must have known what I was doing felt really wrong as in my panic I seemed to have left my wallet at the cash machine :o re-traced my steps a couple of minutes later and couldn't find anything.

Crap I thought there's Karma for you. Anyway got into work prepared to call the bank to cancel my cards and I spotted an email. Someone had found my wallet and my email and I'm picking it up later.

Now feeling bad I'd like to do something about it, but I dare say handing £40 into Tescos isn't going to make a difference as they'll be the ones pocketing it. Thoughts?

As you said.. if you give them the £40, they will just put it in the till and think nothing of it. May as well keep it..

Actually yeah, thats a nice idea. Give it to the guy who found your wallet, you wouldn't lose anything over it and he gets a nice reward for saving you a lot of hassle :)

I don't think the £40 will ever be likely to get to the person who left it - I'd suggest a tenner for the kind gent who returned your wallet and £30 for charity.

Your eternal soul is worth it :)

If you left the money in the cash machine it would have swallowed it up and re-creditted the guys account, I would suggest the only decent thing to do is to drown your sorrows or what Telescopi said :)

Hand the £40 into the Police and tell them where you found it. The Police have procedures for lost property and I think you will legally get to keep the £40 if no-one claims it within a certain timeframe.

Can they really do that? It sounds like it would be easy to scam them if they did.

PK!

Its happened to me when I was drunk and in a hurry, also when I have had problems with the machine breaking and not giving me the money (slot thing didn't open).

Actually try it with a £10 or if you can find a machine which does £5 one of them.

Chance are, that who ever withdrawn that £40, didnt just 'forget' to take it, maybe the cash point at the time was not working, he/she waiting, nothing came out, only for 5 mins later when no one there it popped out.

This has happened to me before (only £10), I didnt come out, but I went inside the bank, and managed to get it back/refund as such.

Chances are that he/she who is missing this £40 has prob done the same, but wether the bank has gave it back is another question.

Think I'm going to offer the guy some and give the rest to charity. I could do the police route I suppose but I highly doubt whose ever the money is would think about looking there.
