Felipe Massa, In or Out?

I can't see him being replaced mid-season, however the performance in the last race was the last nail in the coffin - Alonso finishing a strong 2nd and Felipe being lapped? Not good.

Is a real shame, as he did show some real promise in earlier years, just hope that they get a good replacement to challenge Alonso and really help the team to push for the drivers and constructors championships.

In fairness to Massa he did have a drive through penalty.

I think the whole Badoer period shows that Ferrari are not the kind of people to knee-jerk a reaction to a driver change.

I am getting bored of reading articles about how Massa needs to prove himself soon, though. They seem to have been saying it for over a year.

That gif is better with the peoples actual faces. The extended video of it is even better where one of the team crew punches the wall and the Ferrari sign falls off.

He is simply not performing, so at the very least he should leave at the end of the season.

The only way for him to stay would be to put in some amazing performances, in succession, starting from now.... even then, I do not think his place would be safe for next year

But that nasty crash he had must have had some effect.
I keep hearing people say this but don't think this has anything to do with it. In 2010, after the accident he was a consistent points scorer and was on the podium 5 times.

That is exactly what Ferrari want. A mediocre mid fielder who can get points while #1 is off fighting for wins and championships. The problem is he is comedically far away from that. He has just over 3% of his team mates points. It's time he went.

But surely Ferrari would want 2 great drivers to double their chances of winning?

Ferrari very much prefer to have a clear difference between their number 1 and number 2 drivers, however they like their number 2 to be top 5. It makes the team strategies easier and makes WDC easier. Obviously without the drivers and the cars it doesn't work too well, e.g. the past few years.

I can't see Ferarri being in with a shout of the constructors this year with Massa "backing up" Alonso, so basically, it is better to dump him asap. Then let the new guy (Perez..) get a load of running done before the start of the new season.
Perez is not going to take too long to get settled anyway, so I think changing Massa mid-season is a good gamble to take. At least then they have the option of dumping him out at the end of the year (or before even!) if he is not working well, to bring in someone like Webber..

I don't think it was the accident either. More likely to be the car, change of testing and Alonso then joining.
