Manchester United will parade their 19th league title at Old Trafford on Sunday after the game against Blackpool, and their is yet more silverware headed to the
club in the form of these two prestigious awards.

Ferguson's honour was almost a formality, of course, after a season where his side have regained their domestic dominance and reached the Champions League final.

Vidic has been outstanding at the centre of United's defence, but he lost out to Tottenham's Gareth Bale (PFA Players' Player) and West Ham's Scott Parker in the season's other individual awards.

Well deserved by both!

I seem to remember Vidic being decidedly dodgy at the start of the season. He was left on his arse a few times.

How can it be 'of the year' in May? I've never understood that.

Vidic has been immense this season, and Fergie.......well he will be truelly irreplacable (even more so than Scholes or Giggs, and thats saying something)

Vidic? Respect for the fact that a defender got it, too few do, however because they're seldom in the limelight I think his award will bring some of the old raised eyebrows.

lol, several defenders have been miles better than Vidic, when I think of a list of defenders who get themselves caught out and in dire need of making a rugby tackle or pulling someone back, Vidic, Bramble, Onouha, Ridgewell are probably about joint top of the list.

I don't get the Vidic thing, lets ignore shirt pulling at corners because everyone does it, when you consider the West Ham game alone he should have gotten 2 red cards, one for an elbow almost no one spotted, one was clear as day and is a red card 9999/10000 times.

THeres at least 2-3 more red cards on top of that he should have gotten for his rugby tackling.

Kompany has been a lot better than Vidic, Huth while I hate him, has a goal tally that puts several strikers to shame and is almost the entire reason a fairly poor Stoke team are well in the top half of the table. Baines, maybe less defensively and more offensively, has been immense this season at Everton.

I quite like the statistic of goals conceded per minute played, Terry/Ivanovic have only been on the pitch while 26 goals have been conceded, Vidic, 31, but he's played a little more. However Terry has conceded a goal every 110 minutes, vidic 97.

I don't like Terry at all as a person, but on the pitch he's been a rock this year, less prone to rugby tackle's than vidic, better record on the pitch.

Reading comprehension try it, really, seriously, just try it.

Meh, I can kind of see why both have won their respective awards. But I am dubious.

I agree like some that its good a defender has got it for once and I think Vidic is a cracking player, but I'm not toally convinced he's really been player of the season.

As for Fergie, I think his award is mainly on the back of winning a record 19th title. The past few weeks of the title race have been entertaining, but I question whether a stagger across the finish line is really that meritable. But then the other argument is that he's ridden out a tough season where everyone in the top half of the table has dropped points in unsuspecting games etc.

Blurgh.

Fergie deserves it, wouldnt give it to vidic, Hernandez before him.

I'd agree with that, I think I'd give it to Hernandez over Vidic. I have to look at the award in its absolute base form... the absolute, best player of the year. Vidic is a great defender and has been immense for Utd in recent years, but I dont think I'd say that he has been the best player, out of all the positions, out of all the teams, this year. (I'd also give it to VDS over Vidic too)

Motivating world class players to just about win the league on home form.

Daglish/Hodgeson

If you call Fletcher, Carrick, O'Shea as well as their younger defenders and then players like Anderson and Valencia World Class then sure.

They're also in the Champions League final if you forgot.
