Ferrari launch thread

Why can we not deny that the car is incredibly quick?
It hasn't done a single lap on track and could be an absolute dog of a car.

Until the cars roll out of testing we will have absolutely no idea how any of these cars perform.

Some people may even say that until we hit qualifying for the first race of the season, we will have no idea as to their performance level.

Personally, and I'm taking a complete stab in the dark here, but I think Ferrari and RBR will be the fastest on Race1...though this is a complete guess, based on past performance.

I'm fairly sure he meant last seasons car which also had the lower nose...

My mate who plays golf calls this car the "Sally Gunnell", looks awful but is a good runner......I think they have a golf shot called that or something.

Hopefully it comes down to function over form on this car.

Sally Gunnell is one of Britain's best former female olympic atheletes, numpty. :p

Yes but she was not a looker ;)

You're not wrong.

Here's the Ferrari en route to Jerez.

I wonder if Ferrari charged a higher percentage to sponsor their nose this season, knowing how much attention it would get? Kaspersky must be loving the "radical" design. :p

Nose/front wings can change a lot before the start of the season. So, once testing begins, expect most teams to bring many difference noses with them to try out.

A lot of people are talking more about the wings...but I think the real speed lays in the suspension and the overall angle of the car. I'm looking forward to the start of testing.

My gut feeling tells me that the Ferrari and RBR will have the fastest cars going into Race1.

What I'm really looking forward to seeing in testing, is the McLaren. I have a sneaky (illogical) feeling that McLaren have produced a relatively slow car and are going to be playing catch-up throughout the season.

For all of McLaren's "perfectionist" attitude, they just can't seem to square up the raw ingenuity and technical know-how of the RBR team, who have been the best in the World for the last few years now.

I don't think you need to have any sneaky or illogical feelings about McLaren, the past few years have shown that a feeling they will be slow out of the blocks is perfectly founded.

I just hope were all wrong. If I'm honest, I hope we get 3 or 4 teams will equally fast cars so that we get an epic season.

With the bigger teams, do they use a modular system on the car, so they quickly change parts and configurations? Also, will Ferrari bring many variations of the front wing to the tests?

They are modular to a degree. The front wing, read wing, engine cover and side pod covers can all be change independantly and quickly.

However, its not quite that simple as bits will be designed to work together across the whole car.

But at the very least expect to see a number of different front wings. I wonder if Ferrari have pursued the flexi wing idea and stopped it flapping?
