Ferrari & Red Bull Quit FOTA

Ferrari might have made the decision to spend their way to success (their statement does not explicitly state that they are going to spend big). They have a great team, but at present they cannot "break" RBR. They need to spend big money, to "break" RBR, so this might be the plan.

Next year should be very interesting, IF Ferrari have decided to remove budgetary constraints.

Ferrari does not have the money to compete with Red Bull in a spending war.

No but they do have the ability, like McLaren, to spend more than they probably were under the RRA. It possible that RBR left for one reason or another and that Ferrari said "we'll if they are going to be un restricted then so are we".

No they can't spend the same kind of money but it would still be more than every other team that is part of the current RRA since they all have to stick to it.

Do they have to, looking forward to the engine changes freeing up spending would help them a lot. They would be helping themselves. Will Renault be so keen to throw as much money at it? Yes Red Bull could fund it but so many other teams would be benefiting from that as well.

I said this time and time again when the teams have had issue with the rules and people wanted them to go it alone, they cannot. They would never agree on anything if they were left to their own devices.

Surely now though the FIA can bring in more extreme cost cutting measures easier than if they were all united? It's much easier to force through changes now surely?

this is crazy, wonder why mclaren havn't done the same.........along with the other major f1 players like Mercedez?

I don't think the Mercedes team have the kind of money to spend much more than the RRA personally. It's only conjecture and a hunch since I obviously have no facts to back it with. It just feel that them not having to spend bazillions was part of the reason Merc got back into the sport in the first place.

Probably because Whitmarsh is president and it would look awful (if its even possible) if Mclaren left yet Whitmarsh remained president.

Would be pretty catastrophic for FOTA if both left!

ooooo..........we don't want to damage Whitmarsh's CV now wud we, oh no what could happon to Mclaren!!!! (maybe stop being such a bunch of businessman and be proper racers like red bull???)

Ferrari were very much for the spending agreement though, so they have probably left because Red Bull would make no agreement. Anyway take away Ferrari and FOTA is nothing really :D

That's what some of the media are reporting.

you know he doesnt comment on this sort of stuff and you cant really expect him to when it could cost him his job

I don't think he would have any additional information anyway, it's not like he's consulted about such topics. I'm sure most of their staff are wondering what happend, or have their own personal views.

i always got the impression he was fairly high up seeing as he was arranging factory tours for forum members at one point and obtaining signed merchandise for someones charity raising auction

With a two month notice period this seems like brinkmanship to be honest, Ferrari and Red Bull throwing their weight around. Wouldn't surprise me if an accord was reached at the 11th hour on RRA and both teams rejoin.

It's not really about that - can't you see how damaging the conflict of interests would be if you had a team withdraw from an organisation whose TP is the President of said organisation?

LMFAO you really think McLarens second factory produce road car bits only, Whitmarsh was caught with his pants down.

I'm sure Mercedes, Ferrari and now Mclaren have large resources for their road car development which may have cross-over applications.

It must be difficult deciding where the line is drawn, but if you assume the competition to cheat does it make it fair to also cheat?

Do you have proof of this?...what you haven't...thought so ;)
I only proof that MSC and Brawn had was the number of people at RB and that RB spent over 800,000 euro for airo for one race.
