So I'm looking to upgrade my hard drive space, as well as get an external drive to back up important files onto.

I currently have one Samsung SpinPoint T 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache. If I wanted another 500GB putting in, would you recommend another of the same, or shall I go for the Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 500GB SATA-II 32MB Cache, which is about £10 more expensive but has double the cache? Will there be any compatibility problems, or problems of any other sort? Which would you recommend?

Secondly, how would you set them up? I have an Asus P5KC motherboard, and hear lots about Raid setups etc although know nothing about them. Would I need to use one/benefit from it, or would I just need to plug the hdd in and I'd be sorted?

Lastly, I'm looking for an external hdd to backup large files onto. I was looking at the Western Digital MyBook Premium ES 500GB eSATA 3Gbps / USB 2.0 External Hard Drive (WDG1SU5000E), it's a good size and has eSATA, which my motherboard supports. What's peoples opinions on this, is it a decent drive/are there better out there?

Cheers all!

there shouldnt be compatability issues, and you dont need a raid array setup to have the two sata hdd's installed you can run them independantly like c: d: ect to setting them up just connect the new drive to the second sata port and away you go or should be (we all know pc's can be tempremental little beasts) i dont know too much about external drives tho.
