Today I got a couple of emails from Blizzard, the first saying that my battle.net password was being changed and the 2nd saying that my account has been suspended.

I didn't click on any links and tried to login, but couldn't login....so some scum bag has hacked my account and reset my password......probably deleted all my epic and got rid of my 42K of gold

Whats bothering is me that I do not have a clue how they did it...

Both my laptop and PC have up to date virus software, outgoing firewall protection and are scanned on regular basis by Spybot and Malwarebytes AntiMalware.

I have spent all evening scanning them again and with some online scanners too, but all came up clean.

I have gone through all the programs in the background with hijackthis and I cannot find anything.

The password was specific to WoW, so I have no idea what has happen, I have never given it out or logged on using any other PC.

Also I haven't played for over a week, so I am bemused how someone logged in...

Oh well crap happens......

Im sorry I got bored I will return your account back to you for

£9.99

on a serious note not any on who lives with ya etc?.

I have never played WoW in my life but when ya log in does it or can you select an option to store user name and password?

Could've been a zero-day trojan that your anti-virus had missed, or countless other "hacks". Did you have an authenticator on your account before this happened? It happened to me and I had no idea how it happened as I was very secure (or so I thought) with updates, anti-virus and a strong account password so can only think it was a trojan/keylogger that got me. Account was secure up until a few weeks after converting it to a battle.net account. :(

Fortunately Blizzard only took a couple of weeks to complete the process of restoring my account including the time to deliver the authenticator.

1) Nope it does not remember the password.

2) I didnt click on any of the links in the email in case it was a scam one, I then tried to log into WoW but couldn't...the 2 e-mails were actually legit ones from bliz....

3) Also I have been alway for almost 1 month (stuck out in far east do to all the flight trouble) and been back just almost 2 weeks and only logged it once during that time, so no software or downloads have happen for quite some time.

I better invest in one of those authenticators for the future...

I woke up to 14 password reset requests, and then my account being suspended via blizzard, this was actually from them, cant login via game or blizzard acc, cba probably for the best that it happend.

I think the worst thing about this happening is not knowing how it happened and not really any way of finding out.

Why let some hacker have your account? Email or give Blizzard Account & Billing a call and tell them what the situation is. If it's anything like my brother, they'll eventually ask for proof of I.D (Driving licence / passport).

In before the annoying "uh you mean you had it KEYLOGGED rofl" brigade.

Really there's no excuse for people not having the Authenticator. I know the keyring is £6 and not everybody has an iPod/iPhone/Android device but the £6 is less than a monthly sub.

It's not perfect, there are reports of trojans that do some kind of instant digit authentication or something but for the most part it will solve 90% of script kiddies being able to access your accounts.

Once you get it back from Blizz, hop on to a different computer (i would use a mobile device like my phone or iPod) to change the password for your account and if possible reset the secret question.

There's a lot of it about since the battlenet merge due to people using the same email addresses for Battlenet and Wow related sites.

you use the same password for accounts else where? e.g. here? you may have signed up to a dodgy site, and then the owner has gone around trying to log in with your email/password to see if it worked.

which they cant verify is genuine anyway

i really dont see the point anyone can google a drivers license /passport and edit the name

This. Blizzard WoW customer service is very reliable. They will sort it out and get your account back to you. All they'll need to know is your original cd key and when you last logged in and you'll have a good chance of getting back any stuff that has been transferred or sold. At least that was my experience with them a few months ago.

What this guy said, note down your vanilla wow/ burning crusade/Lich King cd-keys be they digital or retail, your last log in date aswell as your account name, no passwords or driving id/passport. The quicker its down the better your chances it will be sorted. Blizz have numerous methods to get it all sorted these days.
They should imidiatly suspend you account then start the process of giving it back, weither you want to play or not, its best to get your account back secure.

There's some BS around the account migration especially when so many unused accounts got raided - some even re-subbed the hacked account to loot it! One of the fave ways at the mo is dodgy addons - you may just never know.

Get an authenticator asap then get blizz to sort it.

Of course they can verify if its genuine. I work for an online gambling company and people have to verify their account by sending in 3 pieces of ID. I know we can verify the passport but it costs £3.50 a time. The code at the bottom of the page is the result of an algorithem that uses the date in the passport.

I would imagine that the drivers licence works the same way.

so if someone altered a name in a photo of a passport or drivers license you could tell?

personally i cant see blizard paying £3.50 everytime someones account gets hacked which seemed to happen a hell of a lot

which is why they just use the cd key and last login time...
