My fiesta (had since new) has finally shredded itself at 150k miles.

Going to potentially look at a second hand cmax 7 seater. Any particular engine I should go for? Possibly want an auto too

1. Have you considered joining the compensation groups online? I think there are some facebook groups. Some people have had success claiming from Ford, but if it's 150K I doubt it's covered.
2. Don't buy a Ford with their powershift auto gearboxes. They also have design fails and go wrong, costing thousands.

Assuming you didn't bother to get the wet belt replaced?

What's your budget? Might be other 7 seaters worthy of consideration

1.6 Duratec Ti-VCT 123hp would be the only petrol I'd consider if you want reliability. The rest of the petrol engines are all Ecoboost with various issues (majority of 1.0 will be wet belt, 1.5/1.6 have had coolant leak issues). Not sure if Diesel is an option for your use case (and tbh don't know what issues they have)

nothing wrong with powershift boxes providing they have been serviced on time around 40k for oil and external filter. as regards c maxs we love ours 1.5tdci auto.

having just sorted my daughters galaxy out after it shredded its cam belt 3 weeks ago i was impressed that it only broke the rockers, and didnt damage the valves. 131k and garage she bought it from reckon they changed the belt when she bought it with a new waterpump at 124k ....yeah i bet.
new rockers and lifters, cambelt kit with waterpump , chain for cams and chain tensioner plus all associated gaskets etc just under 700 quid but reckon i saved a packet on garage labour and finally (touchwood) stop the flipping high pressure fuel pump dreaded oil leak.

not sure but have been told the 1.5 even though its a 8valve also shares the same trait as the 16v galaxy in so much as if the belt snaps it just breaks the rockers, though not wishing to try it. will do the belt later in the year , its says 10 years 125k but would rather do it early that risk it.

There's a lot wrong with them. They have a design flaw and go wrong regularly for people even following service schedules. They are as bad as the wet belts. Having owned a Ford Smax for nearly 10 years and being a member of Facebook groups, there are absolutely 100s of posts over the years from new joiners that ask about power shift problems.

Budget id say 10k or lower. I’d always discounted diesel…but maybe I’m wrong?

We have a Cmax 1.6 petrol, although the regular 5 seat not Grand / 7 seat.

The car is....totally fine overall as a mum wagon though hugely lacking in power, painfully so when 4 up with camping gubbins etc so I'd carefully consider engine albeit agree steer well clear of at least the 1 litre ecobooms. I'd personally look at / consider a 1.5 even with the potential issues.

I'd also say as a car from a design perspective it's really feeling it's age along with the mk3 focus, ours being worth next to nothing means it doesn't really feature in the list of concerns, not sure I'd want to spend ten grand on one even accepting the current lunacy that is second hand car pricing.

Hmm, some nice 2 series but are they insanely expensive for repair etc?

Assume autotrader is the best stop to hunt for a car?

We have a 2011 Smax with Powershift.

Done 47k in it under our ownership, 177k total. Always serviced just ahead of scheduled, had no issue.

look at the weight of s max/galaxys. were talking about c max. also those 100s i expect were all fully serviced?.
like most things they go wrong but look how many are sold. i used to use a private hire company to get to the airport and he had a s max with nearly 250,000 miles on the clock with no powershift problems...guess he was just lucky.

Like the look of this:

Looks decent enough - I still think these are one of the nicer 7 seaters available.

Might be worth dropping a post in here: https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/bmw-and-m-power-owners.18392172/ as someone may have one and know of any possible issues
