I'm going to look at one of these tonight as the wife wants a car a bit smaller and less juicy than the A4 3.0L estate for day to day stuff. She wants something sporty though so we have been looking at the ST. Not interested in Clio's or Corsas as she said they are too "boy racer" for her.

The car in question is 100% original, 05 plate with 48K miles and £4750.

What should I look out for on the car tonight or are there any major reasons not to get one?

Thanks in advance.

There arn't really any major issues with the Fiesta ST that I've heard of, I've had mine for 2 years now and not had any troubles with it and it's not exactly standard running 260bhp. It's not as quick as the 2.0 engine suggests but (in my opinion) has a better interior compared to the Clio. Handling wise it does well although they all look like they are on stilts.

Try and get a face lift, after 06, the cars we're fitted with 'dimple' front head lights and a nicer dash and a few other changes I believe.

Yeah no hope of an 06 or greater on our budget. Well not unless its got sily miles which i'm not interested in.
As I said its for my wife (she's 36, not that it matters) and thinks the ST would suit here more than something like a Clio, Corsa etc.

Nice car, but much more of a warm hatch than a hot hatch.

Performance has always disappointed me in these but seems like a good choice for the OP.

tbh, when i see this:

the first thing that comes into my head is boy racer lol, just like the saxo vts

Clio 172: http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/specs/Detail.aspx?deriv=21329

Fiesta ST: http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/specs/Detail.aspx?deriv=29814

the 172 looks less boy racerish, fun to drive, will give you 40mpg, its faster, quicker, more powerful and best of all Cheaper

you be mad not to get a 172, they go for around £3k for a decent low mileage one

Whilst I agree (and I'm actually in the process of looking at 172s at the moment) the 172 looks cheap and old compared to the ST. The only reason I'm not looking at the ST is the performance is warm, it's barely quicker than a Mini Cooper round a track and I'm not too keen on the 'my first hot (well, warm) hatch' image.

Ended up buying it as its a very good nick car.

I drove it for a few miles and it reminds me of my early days in my pug gti!

In all seri ousness though its perfect for the Mrs and she loves it. Bought it for £4400 in the end from a really nice retired couple who were selling it for their daughter who moved to Thailand to teach English. Has FSH from main dealer so I think we have a result.

Thanks for all the advice and comments though :)

Looks nice :) Any chance of some more pics? Those ones don't do it justice.

Does it have the full leather seats?

Is it only the 06+ ones that have the bubble lights etc?

That's a bargain price in my book! I'd snap one up if they were that price round here. Range from 6-9K here! :(

It's my realistic dream car at the moment and everytime i see one it's either being driven by a old man or a woman. Jealous! :p

I don't care if a 172 is faster, to me the Fiesta ST is so much nicer!

While I agree the Clio might be better in some respects, I'd have also chosen the fiesta. To me it has a little more class, and refined feel, who cares if its not as quick.
