FIFA 08 Official Thread

I am still finding the shooting a bit frustrating. 7 times out of 10 it will be straight at the keeper or over the bar, whereas in the arena it seems easier to direct the shots.

I did score an AWESOME 30 yarder with Mikel against some kid in HMV today while waiting for the missus to finish shopping and I scored a great lob shot with Drogba at home that bounced off the bar then off the keeper and in :)

Loving the authenticity of the game though. I STILL find it slightly sluggish and very frustrating trying to beat players.

^I agree, whilst it's improved over 07 i still find it sluggish and most of the time i feel frustrated due to the bias/idiot refs and players not moving to passes if it's not going to reach them, they just stand their and let the a.i run up and take the ball

Anyone else noticed that every team seems to have a 'david beckham' free kick taker, the a.i are always scoring amazing free kicks against me

Wii and PS2 versions have faster pace of football. I guess that version of PS3 and 360 has more realistic soccer game hence slower game.

From IGN review of Wii Fifa 08:
While it features the same official teams and tournaments as FIFA 08's other editions, it's much closer to the PS2 game than the slower-moving 360 version. Here, the action moves thick and fast, the ball speeding quickly from end-to-end as teams break forward on the attack. What's more, passing seems far more fluid than the next-gen game; you're nearly always able to locate a player who's found a bit of space and it's easy to perform a succession of perfect passes before slamming the ball into the back of the net.
Maybe another reason to own a Wii! :p

A goal I scored earlier in one of the challenges (I had to win by scoring with a Midfielder).
Paul Scholes Goal.

You'll need a Flash Video viewer, Here's one.

Awesome goal :D

Did you upload that to the EA Servers?

Still enjoying the game but it is frustrating me a tad, not being able to out pace or run pass apposing players is kind of annoying, I shouldn't have to attempt to do a trick with Messi to get past Titus Bramble. I should be able to outpace him. Also when your running in a straight line then switch to running diagonally (e.g towards goal from the sideline) the player slows down a hell of a mount so easily tackled.

I wish they had 'simple' tricks like the side step on pes, makes things easier.

I'm trying to find out what pass and run is as that changed my game on PES as its so hard to create chances in the game.

I believe the one-two give and go move is LB+Y+A, LB+A+A or LB+A+Y

one of those...

It's not as effective as any previous years though, and it really leaves you wondering if it is even actually doing anything.

I can't see why people are moaning about not being able to beat people for pace?

If you hold the player up... the make a darting run past you have the player on your shoulder and then should pull away.

If you've made a 30+ yard run it's a bit harder to beat someone.

I am player as Swansea City in Manager Mode though... and the defenders/wingers in League 1 aren't exactly the quickest - and I have bought some quite nippy wingers :)

Well... I say quite nippy... they're fast for Division One anyway...

Cheers :). Yeah, I uploaded it to the EA site, but as you can't share yet, I clicked 'download' and then just uploaded the file to my site. Probably the easiest way for us all to share goals at the moment :).

In regards to beating people, I generally don't have a problem, my wing players are quite quick, but if you're struggling Andy, when they get near you, flick the right joystick in the direction you're running, you'll knock the ball past the player and you'll run even quicker without the ball so you'll get passed the player and often get in a position for a cross. You can also flick it in-field if you want to cut inside, but often the touch is too heavy.
