I dont think a form change helps - all it does its give us empty hope and where it works for a few days we go back to the same losing ways hiccupped by a few wins due to either poor opposition or a good defence - we are the Man City of FIFA.
We need to change our playing style and to be blunt Im tired of watching the same people play the same way since FIFA 10 came out. Theres no creativity, no invention, no reading of the game - its just
'if I do this, I can do this action and if I get here/or am nearly tackled, I can do this action' - rinse and repeat...
Weve seen how other teams beat us but we dont follow/learn the same approach and just keep to the same tired script. My unsorted list (not exhaustive):
We need to keep possession more even if that means backpasses to the CPU;
Try not to turn into a tackle (a lot harder than it sounds in FIFA 10);
Reduce usage of r stick as FIFA 10 seems to penalise you and favour the defender from a standing start;
Get rid of most of the tricks because 9/10 times they arent needed in a situation and the failure of them just negates some of the above points - I think skilled dribbling is still a tool but never seen enough in Club to see its advantage;
Be more aware of your support up front especially in front of goal - if you really care that YOU have to score rather than another team member then I dont think this Club will suit you - you wont get glory if you miss when someone was better placed for a tap in;
Use FIFA 10 bugs to your advantage - we all know what they are;
Keep it simple - dont always look for the most complicated way to do something;
Dont ask for the ball from CPU if you arent in an unbroken line of sight as the majority of the times it will lead to conceding possession;
Dont ask for the ball if you are behind the play since other players might be making runs expecting/asking for the ball and you break the move dead (I notice this a lot when its 4ppl games - doesnt happen as much in 3pl games as we expect the CAM to join up play most of the time so asks for ball);
Let the CPU settle before asking for the ball;
When the CPU is taking a FK make sure someone in a good position asks for it otherwise the default pass will be turned;
Look for the early ground pass/cross or cutback - it means the defence havent got time to setup and you are more likely to have a goal scoring chances if they keep onside;
Dont run with the ball for the sake of it - if someones forward of you or in space, use them;
Dont take peoples space or go into areas that for your position you shouldnt be there for in the first place;
Most importantly SPEAK UP...
I honestly feel like Im one of the few that bothers to mix up my play (Im still far too formulaic for my liking) dependent on the opponents (I dont think I do when Im playing with different Club members and I need to work on that) by just looking at whats happening around me and playing what I think is the percentage pass or a riskier pass that might lead to a goal. The selfishness in front of goal though is what winds me up the most and its an issue OldHTK identified in FIFA09 over a year ago (goal vision) and for some people that still hasnt changed and these are indicative of our problems - we ALL havent really grown as a team, though in certain combinations Ive noticed we are deadly...
Its the main reason why Ive asked to rotate as people expect to be in certain positions, expect to rely on very limited skills that suit them in that particular position which means that if they need to do anything else they are just found wanting or when they are off form it really impacts the team. We all need to be complete players as we dont always all play together and in positions we want to play in all the time - so at least when you are called upon to do something different you can adapt...
Anyway back to formations - the way I see it is with 3ppl it has to be with CPU ANY and Skips forms is as good as its gonna get - yes its narrow and yes when the opponents have bodies through the centre its hard to make chances. Perhaps we should changes the dpad weighting to try and get the CPU to come forward more to assist with joined up passing. This form Ive seen work epically with the right balance of skills of the people involved...
For 4ppl its far more tougher as we were trying to keep to CPU ANY - I think where we can use a Human ANY we should as its far more decisive usually. Form wise I would put forward the 4132 (CDM, AMs and 2 STs) we have used which seems to be very attacking but leaves the DEF-ATT movement very stretched; or a narrow 41221 so with a CDM, 2 CMs and then a tight LF, RF and ST unit which may mean easier linked play...
Think thats it - agree/disagree at your leisure with my points - all I can say is at least Ive continual put effort into moving this Club forward and where we have issues tried to come up with solutions and not just identifying more problems...
Personally playing every night just makes it even more difficult to get out of a rut - so like I said at the start of the season considering all the other games I really want to play Im gonna reduce my FIFA nights so least Im fresh and hungry to play, rather than thinking I should be playing out of duty...
