Lets just say the whole chip vs ground through ball is a well known issue . I prefer chips that are very short and only clear the defence where you have space between where you are and the GK, ground through balls are more suitable for most situations but the chip IMHO is only good for that scenario above time and again...
Midfield to ST chips seem to work better than ST to ST chips because you normally have that space behind the defence to control the ball before shooting which isnt there for ST to ST chips (also you arent normally running onto ball but walking onto it). I normally get a fair few chances as I generally play off the defensive line as a ST rather than going wide/deep to get the ball (I know Jonny and Been prefer to play like that)...
