I have, the other night - I'm reasonably good, but by no means a world beater, and he beat me quite comfortably. He won't win any awards for the prettiest football in the world, but it's effective and he defends very, very well.
@Shaffaaf - I've been using a discard team until the weekend, when I bought my first decent Serie A team. The discards got me into Div 5 of online seasons, so if you're an OK player they should be plenty good enough to get you started on some coins. Good players are an awful lot cheaper this year than previously, in my experience.
Defending surprisingly to most people is the most important part of the game especially this year (won't go into why as most people seem to think it's voodoo). Basically if you can stop the opponent from scoring, there is no way they can win, simple really when you think about it, but it's still surprising how so many people focus on attack rather than defence.
I always build my team from two CB's, I get the best I can afford (which isn't much), then continually upgrade the team as and when I can, which isn't often.
I'm now finding Barzagli to be terrible, again this is most likely due to his pace than anything else because all of his stats seem fine, but for me Benatia is doing a much better job.
If I had an extra say 100-200K I could probably build the hardest teams to beat possible in the game, with the following core backlines;
Chiellini , Silva and Sirigu (don't know how I would finish this hybrid though, Hernanes CDM most likely)
Ramos, IF Miranda and Courtois
Kompany, Kaboul and Cech
I already have IF Miranda, Courtois and Kaboul, the others are the ones I really want.
I have also started a Bundesliga team with Dante and Hummels at the back, will need to finish it and see how they play before I can judge if they are any good or not.
Yeah I could easily afford those players if I bought some packs, not as much as some people have spent on here but I honestly hate EA so much and I am finding this to be the worst fifa so far, so much so I am seriously considering selling it and my coins on ebay. I know I will get that fifa itch though and want to play it now and again just because there is no alternative.

I hate offline mode, it's just no fun playing against AI, also I feel that you simply cannot improve your game playing against AI, sure it may be easier to win but I would rather lose tbh than play offline.
There was an easy method to make coins when fifa started, buy decent LB's and RB's who are cheap, Juanfran and Konko for instance, then switch them to wingbacks for 150 coins, then add 1000 onto their price tag and sell them on instantly.
Some people just buy cards with no regard for getting the best value for their money. I always see if it's cheaper to convert a player myself first before buying the cheapest BIN on the market.
Another method is to simply buy a load of NIF of an upcoming IF, as during his IF week his price should rise. I sold Costa during his IF for a 9K profit before tax, he near enough doubled in price. If I had like 200K to invest I would have made an easy 100K+ on him.
I still haven't bought him back and as a result my Liga BBVA team hasn't been used since. Need to save up some coins again.
